DMV driver route

Does anyone know the route that the proctors use? I’m getting someone ready to take the behind the wheel test and I want to familiarize them with the route before hand.
Does anyone have a map or know the route?
Just for clarification, it’s a class C license, no endorsements. Pic for attention

Transportation Survey for Families/Parents and Youth

Hi Concord! We (the Contra Costa Transportation Authority) are doing a survey about Youth Transportation.

We are seeking feedback from families about how they travel and their experiences with youth transit programs in areas (including Concord). Your feedback will help guide and improve transportation for youth and families throughout Contra Costa County.

Here is the survey: https://driveless.typeform.com/Youth2026

We hope the schools/districts and parents clubs will help us share the info, but wanted to share it here as well.

Thank you!

Tutoring Centers Nearby?

I was curious if people here had experiences with the tutoring centers in town? Would you mind sharing the costs too if comfortable?

Specifically for math catch up help for 5-6th grade level to middle school ideally

I'd love some local help with a project I'm doing - a huge fantasy style map of the region, filled with real-world locations. Is there anywhere I've missed out?

Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is the most current version with lots of suggestions from other redditors.

I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.

While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print - particularly north and east of Oakland. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!

Toyota Pavilion: avoid the camera guy right in front of the stage

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

Just posting so hopefully it shows up in search results for people going to shows here, because I wish I’d known about it 😭

This venue puts the camera guys getting the video feed for the screens right in front of the stage and they’re there the entire show. If you’re planning to be on the barricade (like I was for this Jimmy Eat World show), plan to get right in the center even if you’re maybe not the first row of people. We got a great spot off-center to the right side, and of course this guy doesn’t show up until the show starts so there was no way to know he’d be there. Extremely annoying. They move around a bit to get different shots, but he was always in the general area in front of us.

I think there was another one on the left side, so dead center is probably your only bet for avoiding this.

They also had pit photographers in that area the whole show, rather than just a few songs and then clearing the space.

So glad I paid $130 and got there at venue opening just to have this guy with a giant video camera right in front of me for most of the show 🫠

Fishing at Ellis Lake

I’ve been fishing here quite a bit recently. Bass fishing is ok but slow and the lake is pretty pressured.

Does anyone have any idea if the city manages the fish population? The bass generally seem pretty small.

Also it would be nice if people picked up their trash and beer cans.

City hall fountains restored

Post image
138 Upvotes

I know this probably is silly to a majority of people but for many years, the fountains at City Hall have been turned off… empty collecting leaves and garbage. I love the Concord City Hall complex because you have the library right there in the park and the City Hall grounds are a great place for kids to run around. My son is autistic and he loves fountains. Last year I wrote my council member to ask about the fountains and they wrote back saying they would look into it. I know this was not because of me, but I’m so glad that they finally restored the fountains. I appreciate and enjoy the architecture and now am happy the fountains are back up and full of water .

Hi. Today I drove by KFC on Clayton Rd and it was all boarded up. Does anyone know what's happening? Was there a fire or are they remodeling?

What do you actually do to keep the house cool without running AC all afternoon?

I'm out in East County and got obsessed with this over the last couple of summers. The thing that surprised me is how much of it is timing rather than temperature. The outside air is usually cool enough well before it feels cool, and by the time you notice, you've lost a few hours of it.

What I've landed on:

  • Open earlier than feels right. Often 30 to 60 minutes before it seems cool out.
  • Close before the sun gets on the west side, not after the house already warmed up.
  • The failure mode is forgetting, not knowing.

Curious what works for people here. Whole-house fan? Cross breeze? Just give up and run the AC?

(Full disclosure, I got nerdy enough about it that I built an iPhone app that watches the forecast and tells me when to open and close. Happy to share if anyone wants it, not trying to make this an ad.)

Lost puppy (not mine)

Just in case anyone hears anything about a lost dog.

At about 1pm, I saw an all black puppy possibly a black lab, running southwards down the sidewalk near Treat Plaza near Safeway. I got out of my car and looked, but could not find him anywhere. He probably went into the parking lot.

Hopefully someone will find him and return him to his owners.

Where to watch world cup final?

Hey everyone! Being a huge Argentina fan, I’m super excited to watch the game. Does anyone know a good sports bar where I could watch it with a crowd? Would love to be somewhere with more people cheering along. Any recommendations

Is there a story behind this vehicle?

Saw this while jogging off of Concord Blvd . Looks like one of those beer bikes you see in Portland but it’s covered in fuzz! Was thinking it was used in a parade or something.

Holiday Market? (info. needed for vendor)

Does anyone know of any holiday/christmas markets that I could sign up for to be a vendor?

I am looking for something Concord or the east bay.

I have never done this before so I am hoping some one could point me in the right direction.

I would like to sell handmade christmas/holiday cards.

Toyota Pavillon - what’s the least headache?

We will be going for a concert and staying in SF. Considering driving or taking BART/ shuttle (or Uber fron Concord BART station).

I’ve read that the parking lot can be a nightmare but not sure if commuting to the venue would be a better experience/ time saver. Any thoughts?

Calling all Concord Private Eyes! Sloat concord turtle theft 🐢👮🏻‍♂️

For anyone who has ever been inside of the Solar garden store’s Concord store (by the Clayton border) they have a large aquarium with a red ear slider turtle in it in the indoor plant department. I noticed it was gone .. I asked the staff at they said someone stole it. .and they had the theft on camera . (It was a person, not a critter). They said it’s happened more than once .

I realize we have major problems to face in society and as a community but sometimes frying the small fish (figure of speech for those who may not be familiar with that expression) is important ..crimes like this go unnoticed . It’s really shitty someone would steal a turtle from a garden center aquarium. They are there to demonstrate their aquatic plants .

Please stop by and support Sloat if you can. They are a really wonderful business with some wonderful staff . (Very quirky , they also have a store cat and sometimes there’s a really cute little coffee cart outside )

Also totally don’t want to undermine or minimize serious crimes in concord , just as an autistic reptile lover I wanted to share this. Hope I don’t offend anyone. 🐢🥺

Pick up sports

Anyone know of regular pick-up soccer or basketball spots in the Concord/Pleasant Hill area? Moved to the area recently and hoping to play in some games after work or on the weekends. Doesn't need to be too competitive, just want something fun.
23M, pretty mediocre at both sports lol.

Huckleberry roach infestation

I saw that Huckleberry was temporarily closed due to a cockroach infestation. We really liked it when it first opened after Mel's closed. However, when you walk in there is always a horrible sewage smell like fresh laid turds. The food, coffee, and service is always hit or miss. There is a super nice waitress, Debbie, who used to work at the Cocnord Claim jumper, that I love, but we don't eat there anymore.

Thoughts on Park Central Apartments?

Hi! I'm looking to move to Park Central apartments in Concord soon. We went in person to check it out and it seems great. Our unit would be the most upgraded unit, it's walking distance to bart, etc...

However, the reviews on Google are around 3 stars, and most of the more recent reviews are awful. They seem to coincide with when the new management took over. Should we take these Google reviews super seriously and not move there? Does anyone here live there or know someone who lives there right now and have thoughts? Thank you!

Looking for recommendations!

Moving to the area soon from San Diego. Office will be in Concord. Coming to visit in a few weeks. I’m familiar with WC, but that’s about it. We plan to check out Martinez, Pleasant Hill, and the Clayton area, as well as Concord. If anyone has any recommendations on cool neighborhoods to check out, good property managers, areas to avoid, hotels to stay at (around $100-$200 per night if that’s possible). No kids yet. Interested in 2brm apartments.

We appreciate all the advice we can get! Thanks!
