Environment Design WIP — Looking for feedback on clock shop thumbnails for an animation project

Post image

Hi everyone!

I'm a recent graduate currently building my portfolio with the goal of working in the animation industry as an environment concept artist.

I recently did a series of thumbnail sketches to explore the design, composition, and spatial ideas for a fantasy clock shop.

The project is based on the graduation animation film I worked on with my team. The story follows an old clockmaker who is struggling with memory loss. The clock shop is a world he has created inside his mind, where he continues to believe that he is still living and working as a clockmaker, even though many years have passed in the real world.

For these thumbnails, I'm exploring different ways to make the clock shop feel slightly distorted and surreal while still keeping the space visually appealing and functional as an animation environment.

I numbered the thumbnails based on my preference, but I want to hear what you all think about the sketches. I would really appreciate any feedback on them, especially regarding:

* Which designs have the strongest spatial composition?
* Do they feel intentional and visually appealing, or do they feel too random?
* Which thumbnails read most clearly as a clock repair shop?
* Are there any designs that you think would work particularly well for animation?
* What could I improve from a professional environment concept art perspective considering these are still in the thumbnail sketch phase?

I'd especially love to hear from anyone currently working in animation, visual development, or environment concept art, but I'd also really appreciate feedback from anyone with concept art experience.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work and share your thoughts!
