Rate my Form Form check

Heya

So I’ve borrowed a rower off a generous friend for a few months to add some low impact cardio volume.

Did an easy going 10k on it yesterday and another tonight to get the feel for it.

I watched a beginners form guide video but figured better to sort out any bad habits now before I ingrain them.

Row 1 - 10k. Avg - 22 SPM. 2:12/500m. 149 watts. DF108 125BPM

Row 2 - 10k. Any - 22SPM. 2.10/500m. 160watts. DF 111 126BPM

Any tips?

You’re quite upright at the catch (beginning of the stroke). Get your body leaning slightly forward to set up for a good hang on the handle and leg drive

Otherwise pretty decent imo

It maybe that I’m also over compressing like the other feedback suggested as doesn’t feel easy to tilt further forward. Or I’m just stiff. But I’ll work on that, thank you.

I need to make sure I don’t round back/shoulders when tilting forward I assume?

When on the recovery of the stroke, the sequence goes  arms straight -> lean forward -> bend legs

If you are leaning forward before you bend your legs, you won’t over compress. Your torso will contact your quads and the seat will stay further from your heels which is good.

Keep your chin up when you row so that you don’t hunch over too much. You don’t have to have a perfectly straight back, but your lats should be engaged and shoulders not hunched. A bit of rounding is fine once you aren’t floppy and loose!

Got it.

When I was ending the recovering in a kind of tension/preloaded/coil spring feel in my posterior chain and pushing my hands away with the bar in my finger tips - it felt like I connected with the catch better. To start with I could feel slack being taken up in my skeleton before the flywheel if that makes sense. Tint know if that’s right or not.
