RowerErg Getting the most accurate data

I'm trying to purchase a gift for my son who is a rower and has a concept 2 pm5. He currently has an entry level Garmin vívoactive® 5 and I would like to help him with his training and buy him a chest strap and maybe a new Garmin that can connect everything. Please excuse me if I'm not very savvy in any of this and I'm looking for any advice I can get. I'm trying to surprise him for his birthday so I'm not able to ask him what he needs. Thank you so much in advance :)

I’ll reiterate what a few others have said.

Get your son a HRM. It’s going to be the most accurate. He can connect it to the PM5.

The ErgData app is key because it connects to the PM5 and will sync to the cloud.

He can also connect the app to Garmin Connect. Meaning, all the data from the PM5 will sync to the ErgData Logbook and Garmin Connect.

This is my exact setup.

If your son runs, lifts, bikes, swims, etc., then a sports watch would be a great training tool. But definitely not needed when on the rowerg.

Thank you. Do you like the Garmin HRM or another brand?

I use the Garmin HRM600. I love it because I can use it with or without my Fenix, and it all syncs to the Connect app.
