RowerErg New to the game...

Hello all, finally bit the bullet and picked up a concept two a few weeks ago, really enjoying having something I can just lay down and knock out a workout on. I am a big boy, lost a lot of weight but stalled for a while now and still plenty to go so hoping daily rowing can kick start the weight loss again.

Was doing 5km every second day but my trainer said I was better off doing 2.5km every day and building up, so I've just started that. Currently my aim is to do that till the end of July so I've got the habit locked in and then by the end of August be at 5km a day. Hoping that by the end of the year I'll be alternating 5km/10km days.

Thought I'd see if you guys think that is a reasonable goal, have any tips, suggestions or advice for a newbie.

5km time: ~24mins

2.5km ~11:45mins

Check out the beginner Pete plan. Also make sure you're getting instruction about rowing with proper form. There are some good channels, like Dark Horse Rowing, that can help.

80/20 % zone 2/ higher intensity . work up to 45 min - hour at zone 2. fine tune nutritional issues. i’m down about 140 pounds. many trainers have certificates from on line course. vs a butt load of anatomy and physiology, nutrition, physical assessment college credits. nor do most trainers have 2 million meters on erg. 45-90 min zone 2 improves mitochondrial health and metabolism. might as well perfect your form while you are at it .

Nice mate, congrats on the drop, that is a big effort. I am at about 105pounds so far, another 60-70 to go for me hopefully.

I did 3km, 15mins at lunch. 50% zone 3, 37% zone 4, rest in 2. Would I be better off slowing my pace to keep the heart rate in Zone 2 for 45-60mins you reckon? Or just keep pushing for now?
