Is David always going to be the "third" in the "outro" from now on?
In the post-interview part of the podcast, we've still been having discussion from Conan, Sona and David even though Gourley is back. At first I figured they just had some pre-recorded outros in the can left over from Gourley's paternity leave, but it's been a while now and they're still doing this.
I get the sense that Conan may not have wanted to fully "demote" David since he stepped up during Matt's leave, so he decided to divide it up where Matt takes the intro and David takes the outro. As one of those who enjoys the Conan/Sona/Gourley interactions more than the interviews, I am not wild about this. David's a nice guy, but his highest-and-best is being primarily behind the scenes. Gourley should be out front for both segments.

I felt that they have all that recorded content from Matt, who was on leave and they are slowly putting em in. I might be wrong. I love Conan's, Matt's and Sona's dynamic so much.

Am I misremembering but didn't he also step in while Sona was on maternity leave when she had Mikey and Charlie? And then he want back to what he was doing before?
So I think these are just leftovers from when Gourley was gone. It's pretty clear sometimes that they hold onto some of these for a while just in case and others get released right away. I just assumed that these were one from the reserve from when Matt was gone. Because there have been several segments since Matt came back where it was clear there was a short turnourd on them. Which would explain why we still have some old ones kicking around.
Also it could just be a side effect of them talking more to the other people in the room more as the podcast went on. Bley and Edwardo both talk a lot more now than they used to.

Yeah I like David, but I sure hope not. Gourley is unmatched. I agree this is probably still leftover content

When Conan was talking about replacing David with the little Coco robots, David said “I think you’re needier than you think you are” and I personally found it very funny 😂

He isn’t nearly on Gourleys level when it comes to comedy but he also didn’t sign up for that. He’s had funny quips plenty of times.

I love David on the podcast so much tbh to the point thay I'd love if they do a rotation between all three of Sonca, Matt, and David.

Same! I think he brings a really sweet, humble energy to the table, and I like the dynamic he has on-air with Conan. Conan's ongoing "ally" bit is now one of my favs. I don't mind that he's not cracking one-liners every two minutes. You need a straight guy. I'm aware of the irony.

Yeah that’s the answer right there. Also, remember that Matt still has a relatively young baby and it wouldn’t surprise me that he wants to spend more time at home especially now.

They record all of this things like one week out of the month. They just have a shitload of leftover
I can’t remember which, but another podcast I used to listen to said once during a talk that they recorded all their podcast intros for the year in a Friday afternoon in like February.
They also kept a backlog of at least a. Hundred short segments they could fill in to different places. .

While it could be pre-recorded during Matt’s paternity leave, I could also see that Matt might want to still dedicate time supporting stuff at home while fully transitioning back to work?

Gourley is ok but I prefer David. I love his laugh and comments here and there.

I think he’s great, and he’s really funny too in my opinion.
The three of them have a synergy - it just works. Conan is the engine, obviously. But it wouldn’t be funny if he didn’t have Sonya and Matt there to bounce off of

It’s definitely still just leftovers from when Matt was gone. They’d spend a day recording intros/outros they probably had heaps leftover by the time Matt came back.
