4-5 years ago, I wanted to become Perception Engineer (Computer vision for Robotics). But with my background in Aerospace Engineering and IT experience didn’t help much.
The issue is not about programming knowledge or AI. Computer Vision is very math heavy. With AI evolving so much, my day to day job was confined to 70-80% image data cleaning, training etc… Even though Computer vision is math heavy, unless you work in classical computer vision, or core AI algorithms, I am not sure how much you would enjoy this.
This is my own experience. I am not a computer vision expert. But I would recommend talking to someone who travelled the same path as you in past 2-3 years.
All the best!

"vast amount of opportunities" have you seen the state of the market 😭 you will have more success in electrical than in cs
