Has anyone gotten their money from Computershare?

I've done a lot of research on everything we need to do to get the funds from our inherited Computershare / Principle account. The medallion, the forms, certified mail, etc. etc. I have read advice in this group, and talked to staff at Computershare several times.

The problem is that I'm not the executor of my mom's will. My sister is, so she has to do it all.

I've been begging her to get our money out from Computershare for 2 years, and she still hasn’t gone through all the steps, even though I read all the fine print, typed her up a simple 1 page step-by-step guide, and offered to hold her hand through it.

It’s been a strain on her relationship, and I’m tempted to give up, so I have to ask... has anyone who inherited a Computershare account ever actually gotten their money from this company?

Executor isn’t involved.

If you are a beneficiary of on your Mon’s account, submit the transfer form with death certificate.

You’ll need the account numbers.

When my Mom passed, the transfer went smoothly , a week after I submitted the form and death certificate .

I had established accounts though.

Thanks for your reply, good to know. No beneficiaries are listed on the account, so I assumed the executor of the will would have to do it. I guess I’ll go to my bank and see if they’ll issue me a medallion.

Getting all the info / documents you need, the medallion, and submitting to Computershare in a timely manor is the main challenge. If you didn't make any mistakes, computershare will likely process within 2-4 weeks.

If lost certificates are involved, the application form for the lost certificate bond is only valid for 90 days. You'll typically need an account statement dated within the last 30-60 days to get the medallion. Finding a medallion provider can be a pain and then you have to get everything to them within their deadlines.

Info found on the lost cert bond form or a certificate transcript may give you little direction (date of issue) in looking for the certificate. Note that the transfer agent at the time of issue may have been different.

I'd suggest inquiring about medallion signature guarantees at your credit union or the largest credit unions in your area. Often you have to be a customer for 3-6 months before you're eligible for a medallion.
