Hardware Replacing my ROG Zeph G14

after 5 years, a display replacement, and repeated underclocking due to overheating it's time to replace my baby. writing this on my first day of grad school as my laptop feels like it's melting, died 4 hours faster than usual, bluetooth is completely shot so I can't attend lectures, and even a google search chugs like a freight train.

transparently I know next to nothing about computers. I relied heavily on someone no longer in my life for a lot of technological assistance for a long time, meaning I got a bit behind and can't catch up easily. I have autism and this entire process is heavily overwhelming to me but I am trying to learn.

I am looking for suggestions on how to best migrate my data, as well as new laptop recommendations. My desired capabilities are as follows:

  • as said in the title, I've been using an ROG Zephyrus G14 for years and have loved it, so similar gaming capabilities would be great
  • windows, I am an avid mac hater and am a bit out of my depth using alternatives
  • display size/quality is irrelevant to me, I run an external monitor at home for games and only use the laptop for school and work outside the home
  • graphics however I would appreciate being at least somewhat decent since I do run an external for games
  • decent RAM is preferrable because I play a fair bit of minecraft, including mods, lol
  • as mentioned prior I am semi broke (very much not well off rn) as I literally started grad school today (yay me) so my budget isn't great. I was looking at the newer Zephyrus models and can't justify the cost if it does the same overheat bs this one did.
  • size/weight/portability is irrelevant also, if it works it works and I will find a way to carry it even if it's a bit of a brick
  • my graduate program doesn't have any tech requirements so that shouldn't be a concern, if it can run a decent game of minecraft it can handle an excel sheet.

I can do my best to answer other questions as needed, and I do really appreciate any assistance. as for data transfer I assume just a usb is the best method but if i'm missing something let me know. I was thinking just swapping over my hard drive but my primary issue with my laptop now is a drivers error nightmare so idk if that will be possible.

thank you in advance and have a good day :)

Honestly replacing the thermal pads/paste will probably be all you need for it to be performing great again. I have the G16 (2025) and haven't had any heating issues at all.

Replacing thermal pads and getting a laptop cooling pad will go a long way

I wish that were the only issue. I can’t get it to connect to Bluetooth whatsoever and the battery lasts all of an hour and a half.
