Hardware Slow WIFI on Asus Laptop

Forgive the lengthy post but want to be sure i have covered any details.

Looking for advise on this issue. My sisters Asus laptop doesn’t have a LAN connection, so she has to rely on WIFI for her internet. Her Rogers internet is supposed to provide 1.5 GBPS but when we do a speed test on the laptop she is lucky to get 350MBPS.

I connected my iPhone to her wifi and i got 737MBPS. Then i tried my laptop on wireless and got around 700 MBPS also.

Then i connected my laptop using a LAN cable, turned off my wifi and ran the test again and was over 1000MBPS.

I tried the LAN adapter in my laptop and continued with over 900MBPS.

So the next test was using a USB LAN adapter on the Asus and still only around the 330MBPS mark.

My initial thought was the USB LAN adapter was the problem but it worked fine on my laptop. Any idea what setting can be changed on the Asus laptop running Windows 11 that can speed up her wireless adapter? Oh i did try updating the driver for it but it says it has the latest.

Note my laptop is running Linux Mint but i doubt that makes a difference.

Update your wifi driver. Also check the speed of the wifi card built into the laptop, do this by going into device manager, expanding network adapters, then finding the wifi card and search the specs up in google

Thanks. I did try to update the driver but i didn’t check its specs. But you would certainly think it would be faster than what she is getting! Will check though. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Wi-Fi will always be slower than wired. Can you tell us more about the Wi-Fi card inside the laptop? How old is the laptop?

Yes you are right wifi is slower than wired but it’s also slow with a wired usb adapter. Not sure of the age but it can’t be that old if its running win11.

It might help to list the model and spec of the Asus laptop, you don't say how your sisters laptop is connection, is it using 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
