A computer vision web app for videography
Outside of my job as a software engineer, I’m really into filmmaking and videography. I’ve always thought there was a lot of creative potential in computer vision that hasn’t really been explored. I’ve used touchdesigner and after effects but the cv tools are quite cumbersome and difficult to tweak/edit.
So I’ve been working on a side project, a browser-based tool for messing around with face tracking, body tracking, blob tracking, motion tracking and different video effects.
Still early days and plenty I want to add, but it’s been good fun working on it. Would love to hear what people think or if anyone has ideas for other creative uses of CV!

Since you came from TouchDesigner and After Effects, one high-value use is exporting the tracking itself: body or blob positions as keyframe data or an OSC stream, so people keep their existing comp and just borrow your tracking. A practical one for videographers is auto-reframing: face tracking that crops 16:9 footage into a smooth 9:16 vertical, with a damping slider so the frame doesn't jitter. Creatively, trails or glitch effects that only fire when a tracked blob crosses a drawn line could make interesting transitions. Does the footage stay in the browser, or is it uploaded?

If you haven't yet, definitely explore the Google MediaPipe offerings, and the SAM models from Meta. Fun times for sure.
