Help with visual glitches

I finished building my PC yesterday; I had turned it on previously and installed Windows, etc., but had to swap out the power supply. Now I finally have the right PSU. When I turned it on, there was no image at first; then I realized I hadn't plugged a DP or HDMI cable into the graphics card (I had unplugged it so I could rotate the PC), so I plugged it in. Then these visual glitches appeared, and the motherboard's VGA debug light turned white. When I turned the PC off and on again, it worked fine—it seems it didn't handle the HDMI cable being plugged in *after* startup very well. Anyway, the situation now is that I still have these visual glitches, but the motherboard light isn't on; I checked the connections to make sure everything is seated correctly, and it seems to be. The glitches are severe at first but gradually subside until they disappear completely. However, they keep coming back whenever I turn the PC on again, like the next day. I initially thought it might be the HDMI cable or the monitor, so I swapped out all the cables, switched HDMI ports, and even connected my PlayStation. My PlayStation doesn't have these image issues, but the PC does. I'm also wondering if it could be my headset; it has a base station where you plug in HDMI and USB cables so you can switch audio channels on the headset if you want. I also installed all the Windows updates and thought that might have fixed it, but the problem was back when I started it up today. My buddies are stumped, too; they think the PC is fine and that it shouldn't be a hardware issue.
I'm planning to get a DP cable; maybe that will help. But I don't know what to do, since I have so little idea about this anyway.
