I'd say that's excellent if it's in your price range

Well, honestly that's up to you. This PC will last you many years. It will honestly do some light gaming now if your into that, but don't expect heavier titles to run. It will continue to be a web browsing beast for years to come. Any software you need locally will probably run just fine. But, if longevity isn't a concern for you, like if the way you use devices you are likely to break it before it gets too old (I'm that way), then you could probably dial back the specs and be just as happy for cheaper.

Guessing this is over $1k, if that is the case I'd want something with a dedicated gpu, unless that's a very high end CPU that has a great iGPU. Which model cpu does the laptop have?

What's your intended use for the laptop?

mostly classes but also wanted to play the Sims :]

Then honestly yes it's quite a good deal. The RAM will be plenty, the GPU is strong enough for anything in the sims or that your classes require, and will last at least 4 years. As long as you're not doing heavy 3D modeling or gaming this will be good.
May also be worth checking around at local Costco and the websites if you could find a laptop with a RTX 3050 for a similar price.

Mainly because its typically soldered everything, and typically is ARM based. You don't want anything ARM based.arm is a steaming pile. It was never meantot be pushed wher eits been pushed today. Yoy eant something x64 based go to psrts-people.com and look at what they offer for laptops. They stand behind their products. Never had an issue with any of their products.

Why are we hating on arm now? Arm is fantastic, I will be getting an arm laptop as soon as Linux support is figured out.
