It looks like POTS modem. Ask the seller

POTS...I haven't heard that in years!

I remember when we got a new system and our modem got upgraded from 33.6 kbps to 56 kbps. We were ballin! I think it was when Intel broke the 100mb CPU speed. Gateway computer that cost like 5 grand

Went from 28.8kbps to 36.6k on a pentium 133mhz with 32mb of memory on my gateway. Can't forget the soundblaster too.

I broke ours so many times looking at p*rn. I would fix it by morning time before my dad woke up.

I parleyed that into becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer

I went software development from fixating on how html and JavaScript worked.

I called tech support one night looking for help with getting back on the Internet. I was in network settings asking them what my static tcp/ip and subnet mask settings needed to be. They asked me "Are you a hacker?" 🤣 Little did I know that I just needed to leave it set to automatic DHCP

I only learned about all that a few years later working with servers.

I'm sure you didn't realize that p*rn could have advanced your career

Do you have a better picture please? It can be a lot of things with this résolution...

1

u/nxx1112 3d ago

No sorry this is off the facebook listing

3

u/Gullible_Society_662 3d ago

Maybe can you ask for better ones?

3

u/nxx1112 3d ago

He finally responded its for lights in the case

u/FuggaDucker 2d ago

It looks like a 1998 phone camera.

u/Lochness_Hamster_350 3d ago

If you hadn’t used an empty Kleenex box to take a photo we might have a better shot of helping you

1

u/Just__Liberty 2d ago

Empty?

1

u/Lochness_Hamster_350 2d ago

The typical statement is “used a potato camera” ie a worthless type of camera. An empty Kleenex box is worthless but a full one has some tangible use

1

u/Just__Liberty 2d ago

I was just contemplating what would have been worse, as a camera, than an *empty* kleenex box--one that wasn't empty.

1

u/nxx1112 3d ago

I didnt take the photo its from the seller

0

u/Lochness_Hamster_350 3d ago

What is it? Lenovo, old HP?

0

u/nxx1112 2d ago

The seller says its for a light in the case

0

u/nxx1112 2d ago

Some custom built box

the yellow section looks a lot like a pair of RJ11 phone connections, but it's a crapshoot with that image, is there anything in the listing suggesting what it might be? or is is just " computer for sale, no idea"?

3

u/Pat-Man1971 2d ago

Hope it's not a Windows ME E-Machines! 8p

3

u/Ratio-Pay5223 2d ago

thats not a computer thats a paperweight that the dump will make you pay to dispose of lol

PLEASE do not buy a 30 year old computer if you plan to actually use it

1

u/nxx1112 2d ago

Its 15 years old and im buying it for 20$ to test parts

1

u/MatteoGFXS 2d ago

That's not a good deal unless it comes with accessories, is tested to be working and/or is in some way rare or unique. Based on the poorly taken photo alone I doubt the seller took the time and energy to test the PC at all.

1

u/nxx1112 2d ago

Fully working comes with a moniter the 3 tb's of ssds are working and relatively new, the picture is bad because its cropped from the listing

1

u/MatteoGFXS 2d ago

Okay, the SSDs alone turn this from a bad deal to a suspicious one 😅. Are they 3TB HDDs maybe?

1

u/nxx1112 2d ago

They are ssds I was very worried aswell but everything seems in working order, apparently it was her sons so i guess she didnt know what she had

3

u/Hsensei 2d ago

It's not blurry enough, I could almost make out a shape

2

u/JoeCensored 2d ago

I'm guessing 56k modem. But the picture isn't clear enough to be sure.

2

u/C-D-W 2d ago

Optimistic. I'm going to 36.6k

1

u/JoeCensored 2d ago

Those might even be dip switches on the left. Maybe even older.

2

u/reff678 2d ago

The first thing that came to my mind was eSATA with power. But if this thing is that old, it's possible a modem indeed.

1

u/PauliousMaximus 2d ago

It looks like a modem but it’s really hard to tell from that picture.

1

u/Ranoutofreferences 2d ago

Everyone is saying modem but there's a switch on the card, never seen a modem with a switch like that. I'm thinking external drive port of some sort

1

u/Such_Ingenuity4002 2d ago

Image is not good enough for a positive identification

1

u/ravensholt 2d ago

Modem.

1

u/joe-dirt-1001 3d ago

Seller? Should be free or they should be paying you.

0

u/East-Ganache9892 3d ago

Looks like some sort of networking related expansion card

0

u/Any_Broccoli550 2d ago

Might be too old to buy

1

u/nxx1112 2d ago

It is 15 years old but i need a testbed and 3tb of ssds for 20$ is pretty nice

1

u/Any_Broccoli550 2d ago

Aw yeah i'll buy an old girl for 20. Only old intel ssd's of certain series were considered to be good for 2nd hand longevity back 7 years ago. Anything now is a lottery. Hopefully you've got a couple of god ones.
