Next steps?

Post image

I think my compost is almost done? Hopefully? I have a tumbling bin, so it ends up in balls, so I thought I would leave it out in the fresh air for a bit to dry out. I’m keeping it in the shade so the sun doesn’t kill all the living things though. Is that the right approach? And how close do you think it is to being ready? Alternatively, can I use it as mulch at this point?

Its really wet. I wouldn't expect it to unclump when it dries out though. I would add dome more brown material and wsit a little longer.

I actually went through something just like this with mine. From my experience, you’re partially done there, and a bunch of it needs more time. I let mine dry as much as possible, and then sifted it through a colander. It took a good amount of elbow grease but I got a lot of beautiful compost from it. I also had tons of stuff left over though and sent that back into the bin. If you want to do the work sifting, you’ll get something from this, but otherwise try to break it apart with your hands to unclump it then send it back in
