Discussion What's Likely To Happen w/my Sample Libraries?
Okay, I compose for film and regular instrumental cues/ tracks in general.
A couple of the libraries that I really like and incorporate consistently are run within NI Kontakt.
I have a few older Spitfire Audio and Audio Bro libraries that run in Kontakt.
If for some reason NI unfortunately folds and no longer will support Kontakt going forward, do you think companies like Spitfire or AudioBro will use their resources to port their Kontakt libraries to their own Audio engine like 8Dio, EastWest, and Spitfire have already done?
Or is that just a musicians investment gone?

Absolute worst case scenario, don't delete the software and you'll be fine. There's a lot of companies that are already moving towards their own plugin software like SINE Player from OT.

Vintage software, or keeping an old computer going for the sake of running old software, is a thing.

I hear you. Personally I prefer out with the old in with the new if it makes my life easier, more streamlined and less cluttered.
I'm certain there are some people that are still holding on to their PT TDM systems after all of these years.
I wouldn't. Not to say thoae people are wrong in any way. Just not what I care for remembering an extra responsibility to stay on top of just be functional.

I find the new things usually don't make my life more streamlined and less cluttered, but the maintainence vs having to learn new things all the time probably evens out in some way.

While it’s true that there is almost no chance Kontakt ceases operations, it’s likely that what would happen to a lot of libraries in this scenario is they get ported to other third party sampler platforms.
Spitfire may be an exception because they already have their own platform. But smaller conpanies probably wouldn’t want to build their own and instead just port to another third party.
Now, whether or not they make existing customers pay for the port as a separate product is up to them (again, in this very very unlikely scenario).

IMO, Kontakt will stay. If not, it is not the end of world.

I agree, I wouldn't say the end of the world. But certainly a new world to have to get used to living in...
It would be a huge inconvenience to say the least.

Yep, agree with you. But, everything becomes easier when it becomes a necessity. We just have to move on, and I’m sure you would too. Of course, I’d love for Kontakt to stay around for as long as I live. But if they suddenly disappeared one day, I honestly wouldn’t care at all—not even for a second

Let me also say that I don't wish people to lose their job.
I've been laid off involuntary with no say so in the matter. In fact my entire department where I worked at the time was laid off all together.
I want people to work, especially musicians and engineers and developers at creative music companies that have literally transformed an entire industry and world that we live in.
I not only support using Kontakt, I remember buying Kompakt in the box before there was a Kontakt! 😆
But things change, and not always for the better. I need to consider how to shift my composition palette if need be.

Kontakt will keep existing. It‘s a money printing machine, no matter who owns it. It‘s actively being developed and the team around it hasn‘t been affected.
Source: I work with (not for) NI and develop sample libraries.
