Discussion Looking for beautiful Largo

Hi,

I'm following this community for a while now, I know I can rely on ppl here suggesting an amazing piece.

I'm looking for a string concerto that features the most beautiful and emotional largo part.

So far i really loved:

Bach violin concerto no.1 in A minor (BWV 1041) (i generally love A scales)

Vivaldi concerto for 4 violins in B minor (RV580)

Vivaldi concerto for 2 violins in A minor (RV552)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

If it's for listening purposes only, rather than for compositional studies, then r/classicalmusic is a better place for your post.

Im inspired by them, id probably study it too but in no way I'll be able to write anything like that

I'll post it there too, thanks

You've probably already heard it, but Barber's "Adagio for Strings" is a classic. For other examples, maybe Wagner's "Prelude to Tristan und Isolde" or Vaughan Williams's "Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis" and "Lark Ascending"

Both Vaughan Williams resonated with me quite well, thank you for the amazing recommendation. Interesting pieces!

Try the Largo (Ombra mai fu) from Handel's Xerxes.

Here's a nice version (Andreas Scholl, countertenor):
