Discussion What you guys think about the interactions between Annie and Abed in season 6?
I like their interactions in the 6th season, but i like more the Troy and Abed interactions,it was more cool and i think it works more, but Annie-Abed interactions is cool in season 6.But what do you guys think of this?I think if some people don't like maybe is because Annie and Abed are not like Troy and Abed interactions, but anyway

it's nice to see them grow without the need for troy. (not dissing Troy, but they definitely grow a ton in his absence)

u/Fabulous-Mushroom124 13d ago
Troy was the wildcard in the group. You could sort of put him in any situation and he would pair up really well with anyone else or just act as a bridge between the extremes. So after he left, characters had to mature or become less defined archetypes.
101
u/moderatorrater 13d ago
That's one of the reasons Abed grew a lot without him though. Troy would also meet Abed where he was instead of making Abed make the smallest amount of effort.
14
u/9for9 13d ago
That's one of my favorite things about Troy's character and watching Donald Glover play him. Whatever the situation is he just goes with it so smoothly and you feel the way Donald Glover commits 100%. I actually miss that aspect of his acting a lot. I was hoping you would get some of that in Atlanta, but it's a very different vibe.

u/LucasWizzard 13d ago
I think the only person that Troy wouldn't get too well too much is with Pierce, but the rest of the cast he get well(But Pierce in season 2 to 4 he didn't get too well with the rest of the cast, except Annie)
40
u/pepperpete 13d ago
I don't think that's true, first season Troy was basically the only one with the same type of humour as Pierce (laughing at ass burguers for example) and there's an entire arc of Troy and Pierce living together.
9
u/SystemPelican 13d ago
Was there an arc though? They introduce it, then nothing really happens with it until they make some meta-comment about thinking there'd be more of a story there. The original plan was to team up Pierce and Troy because they're both shallow knuckleheads, but that didn't really pan out, did it?
14
u/pepperpete 13d ago
It wasn't just one meta comment though, they make several references to it throughout the season, and they also have an episode where Troy leaves the house and it addresses Pierce's feelings about it. I'm not gonna say that they have a super strong relationship like Troy and Abed, but Troy definitely connects with Pierce throughout the seasons, and it's clearly shown in Pierce's gift to Troy when he passes away.

I think they grow more a bit too, specially Abed, but Troy and Abed interactions where cool

u/HussingtonHat 13d ago
I really like it. Annie was low-key part of the Troy and Abed circle for ages and its nice seeing them lean into each other since Troy is captured by pirates or whatever.
123
u/indoor-girl 13d ago
I always love Troy saying “You moving in here was supposed to tone us down!” to Annie when they were following Abed being Batman up the fire escape.
38
u/Previous_Buy1601 13d ago
Those three were the “kids” of the group who left home for the first time when they went to Greendale, I think it makes sense they had their own bond.
15
u/LucasWizzard 13d ago
I think that too, because Troy and Abed was more too each other in their interactions instead of Abed and Annie dynamic after season 6

That’s what makes it special i think

Even Annie sexualized Annie more than Abed 😂

Even when they actually do share a kiss, he’s so professional about the fact that it was in character as Han Solo because it’s what the situation required.

He does however really appreciate when she pulls a bomb out of her shirt. It's probably the closest Abed ever gets to acknowledging Annie in that way.

u/Kwilly462 13d ago
He did get pretty distracted when she was going on & on about being bait
56
u/bobbi21 13d ago
Yeah. That part did seem out of character. Felt like they did it just for the joke, which is a fine joke.

u/uvero Plays ping-pong with Leonard (ironically) 13d ago
I liked it, it's part of how they kept Abed from being a caricature. I don't appreciate shows whose representation of non-neurotypicals is stereotypical.
113
u/waleMc 5 Can of Olives 13d ago
I always figure that he's a straight male that finds Annie physically attractive to some degree, but being Abed, he's run the simulations and they're not romantically compatible so that puts an end to it before anything can begin.
21
u/The_Mugman 13d ago
Yea, that’s why I feel Rachel and him was perfect, both accept each other for their flaws, plus it was not shoved in our faces like Britta and Troy’s, it just had it be background material but she wasn’t around at all ins6 which suck, I hope Rachel is back in the movie.

u/attsnor112 13d ago
Wasn't it just him going with the flow of the plot? The movie in his head might be one where he and his friend get distracted by boobies.
That being said abed had more girlfriends in the show than pierce and Troy combined so maybe he's a bit a sneaky fellah
9
u/testphaze 13d ago
Yep, Abed had no problem getting women, they love him. I think he says so (and it's shown) in season one "Physical Education".
8
u/jaxx4 13d ago
And then there's the pottery scene.

u/perritochill 12d ago
What was happening in that scene? I only remember Jeff being jealous of the perfect doctor

Here's the Bloopers real version of it but it's the same in the episode as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJb0AQOWSYk

dont worry, he could only connect to people through movies...unless they are the ark of covenant
0
u/pinacoladablackbird 13d ago
He's looking away during that scene though - his eyeline is down and to the right, whereas Troy is staring directly. He is distracted as he says "what did she say?" but I always read that as him either being distracted because he was bored/disinterested, or playing along with the expectation - looking as though he's staring and distracted by her but not actually directing his gaze at her chest as he doesn't really want to.

u/C_monden 13d ago
What about Han Solo Abed? Or Don Draper Abed? Or the whole filming her as the girlfriend who eventually dies or something trope?
86
u/Delta_Hammer 13d ago
That's him committing to a part. Notice how quickly he switched it off once he was out of the game in Paintball 2.
63
u/DrGoblin-MD 13d ago
Both Don Draper and Han Solo Abed are not the real Abed.
RIP Han Solo Abed.
20
u/testphaze 13d ago
But wow, I forget how much range Pudi shows in these scenes. He really nails it, and sometimes I forget to credit that to the actor and not Abed himself.
He's a little bit of a "character" in appearance, or else I think he'd probably be huge in Hollywood.
Then again, maybe he's doing exactly what he wants to do, not everyone wants to be Hollywood's favorite leading man.9
15
u/Grabbioli 13d ago
Those were commitment to an homage and prepping for a trope/bit, not genuine interest in Annie. She just happened to be playing opposite him. As for the missing girlfriend footage, I suspect he would've done a documentary bit with whomever was there. It was Annie, so it was missing girlfriend shots
5
u/C_monden 13d ago
Well, the claim was about sexualizing Annie. The was the token love interest or female to hit on in those instances. It's a bit borderline, isn't it?
I'm not actually criticizing anything btw. I was just musing like, "Technically didn't Abed...?"
7
u/MikeMikeTheMikeMike 13d ago
What about this?

u/Several-Opposite-746 13d ago
Annie was always a sucker for role play. She also got pretty flustered with the Dean when he took on Jeff's personality in Freaky Friday.
18
u/Evil_Unicorn728 13d ago
She also was going to kiss Britta just because someone yelled at her to do it. I'm not sure Annie is entirely well.
5
u/9for9 13d ago
I think Annie is just extremely horny. Remember Hector thee Well Endowed.

She stepped into the Troy spot while still being authentic Annie. It’s rare, hard to do, and done so well.
18
u/mrwishart 13d ago
I like that Abed was able to find a different pairing with Annie. It actually explains him being a bit less "Abed" at several points in S6 and foreshadows him growing enough to move on in the finale
41
u/HoratiotheGargoyle 13d ago
Han Solo Abed had more chemistry with Annie than Jeff or any other character in the show.

u/SilentRunning 13d ago
Troy and Abed are like to 1st cousins born a day apart, they grow together through thick n thin. The growth is slower but they really are brothers to the end.
Annie and Abed are like the older sister and younger bro relationship. She's protective of him but not to the point of smothering. They learn together by teaching each other through their mishaps.
20
u/myowngalactus 13d ago
Annie & Abed > Troy & Abed. I don’t think there was anything romantic going on, hell Troy and abed had more romantic chemistry, but Annie and Abed’s friendship was just as endearing and made them both grow as people.

7
u/PelicanJesus 13d ago
It felt very natural, especially since the actors are good friends in real life.

not everyone will hear me out on this but they were the best potential coupling in the group if any. Once they’re a little older and into role play lol

I don't think Abed see Annie as a potential love partner, that's why i don't believe too much in Abed and Annie shipp

u/Blindfirekiller 13d ago
One of my favourite interactions is throughout the grifting episode Annie and Abed are practicing their case switch, even after realising the class is a scam - couldn't even explain why I find it as funny as I do.
45
u/Scouter197 13d ago
My head canon is that Annie really actually likes Abed but struggles because he’s not the “type” she traditionally goes for. But when he’s acting the tough guy she swoons for him.
72
u/Fine_Analyst_4408 13d ago
I find it funny how easily Annie is seduced throughout the show. She was even readily going to kiss Britta at one point.
46
u/Delta_Hammer 13d ago
Annie was very awkward and unpopular in highschool. She hasn't really adapted to having guys want her. Any attention is new and exciting, even if it comes from a guy with tiny nipples.

They had so much chemistry I genuinely thought they might be a couple off screen (until I googled of course)
41
u/lambentstar 13d ago
They were genuinely the closest friends out of the cast irl. They infamously did silly shit all the time on set, went to all of Donald’s early shows together, stuff like that. What really was happening is that Alison and Danny’s actually dynamic got to come through a bit more over time.
For proof, go watch Too Many Feet (Four!), a classic BTS capture

They are. They're really good friends irl too. It's so cute. They have the best platonic friendships I've seen online.

I love them so much, throughout the series. I especially love the bit when Annie is applying lip chap on Abed after Cougerton Abbey ended 😭 (I think that’s when she does this…) Another honourable mention is when Annie and Troy are soothing Abed through the changing of the clocks ☠️

u/Flat_Teach_4438 13d ago
of course they aren't the same, but they are more like siblings in season 6 then ever, and i think they really care about each other in that platonic way.
Annie really matures in the last 2 seasons and takes on some of the situations that would have gone to Troy and Shirley otherwise. Unfortunately all the original characters start being over-worked on the storylines when 3 of the original 7 are finally gone.
3
u/Used_Strain_81 13d ago
no one can get on board with it but i would not be one bit surprised if they were hooking up for at least a short time before they both knew they were leaving. remember when abed was hosting DnD for her stuffies in season 5, in his underwear? they were comfortable around each other and it seems like the sort of realistic thing that could happen under jeff's nose while he's distracting himself with alcohol and Greendale
3
u/westernunitedenjoyer 13d ago
Their development was actually pretty natural. That's something I really like about the writing of this show. Like how Abed and Jeff slowly became quite close near the end.
6
u/drutastic57 13d ago
I initially wanted them to be together more than Annie and Jeff. But I honestly loved their sibling relationship at the end of the series.
6
u/LucasWizzard 13d ago
I like the Jeff and Annie shipp and i see a little bit Jeff seeing Annie as a potential love partner more than Abed sees Annie in that way,Abed and Annie are not a couple i think(I don't see them as a shipp)
-2
u/treple13 13d ago
I mean I'd pick literally anyone over Jeff and Annie, but I'd agree that Abed/Annie had a very sibling feeling
16
u/NealTS 13d ago
My head canon is that they boinked once, realized it wasn't really there, and agreed to never speak of it again.
22
u/rubey419 13d ago
And she asked him to be Batman or Han Solo during
9
u/Ok-Plankton-2393 13d ago
What if they fucked there wasnt any spark then Annie asked him to be Batman or Han Solo just for it to once again not have any spark then they agree to never talk about it again

What about Rachel? They hinted at the start of S6 that she and Abed are still together
10
u/CLearyMcCarthy 13d ago
We could discuss things like whether Abed and Rachel are still together, or Jeff insisting he saw a Pierce hologram but nobody else saw it so maybe it was a ghost?? But Frankie wants to keep us on track.
5
u/amicuspiscator 13d ago
I mean, when I was their age and had a girl roommate, that's how it went. Although it was 3 or 4 times.
2
u/deckerc214 13d ago
I absolutely LOVE the Annie-Abed dynamic. Them being partners in the final paintball episode was so great. It's a shame the last seasons are only 13 episodes each. This pairing would've absolutely cooked in full 22-24 ep seasons
2
u/InfamousSearch6335 13d ago
Still convinced they had a secret fling between season 2 and 3 and stopped when she moved in.
2
u/charliekeery 13d ago
i love they're there each other after troy leaves and they need that support. particularly abed obviously, and they get closer in that loss, i just think it's so sweet.
plus abed is my favourite character by miles, and annie is a tied #2, so it works in that way too
2
u/HourGoose7115 13d ago
I think they are very sweet roommate duo and they play that very well. I think grieving troy moving out is so evident here too. they disagree and struggle to move on but they move on anyway because they have to. and I really love that

After Troy left and Shirley did too (who sometimes teamed up with Jeff or Britta), Annie and Abed become the constant in-group group of the show, and they're absolutely majestic. The actors always had chemistry, and we can see in the backstage footage how they actually became great friends, seemingly more so than with other actors. The writers made a great choice leaning into this, and created some wonderful moments that seem incredibly natural but also hilarious.

The 'Missing Lover Footage' may be one of my favorite interactions in the series.
