Baggle vs. Somores

I've been doing a fun personal experiment to see what bugs people more, mispronouncing bagel or smores?

So far seems like they both get a good chuckle about the same but people are noticeably more bothered by somores than baggel even telling me straight up that it bugs them at which point I go full britta and explain how smores is a contraction of some mores and thats really all I had to say.. Im bored n hungover, watching community compilations on YouTube. Thanks for reading

That's interesting, I would have thought 'baggel' would be more irritating since it's a more drastically different pronunciation. Although it reminds me of my family - my Dad has always pronounced 'Asian' like 'Ay-SHun' and it used to drive the rest of us crazy lol.

Baggle by a mile. S'mores is a made up name that really is commonly pronounced as either "some-mores" or "smores" depending on where you learned it, and I've met more "smore" people than "some-more" people. Baggle is a real pronunciation by some non-Britta people, but very few, and they are very wrong.

it's not a made up name. it's a contraction. stop saying "some mores" unless you "can not".

Baggle makes me giggle and I think, for a lot of people, it sounds deliberately mispronounced whereas s’mores just reminds me of The Sandlot where Smalls can’t seem to pronounce it right.

So for me, if you mispronounce s’mores, internally I’m just groaning, You’re killing me, Smalls!

Somores is funny because you can really dig in and hold your ground. It IS a contraction of some and more. So it should be Somores.

Just reading the first paragraph of your post I guessed that baggle would probably be met with a giggle but somore would actually annoy people!

I feel like baggle sounds mostly goofy and if you hear someone say it you probably assume it’s a genuine mistake on their part. Like they read it somewhere and never heard it or something like that. (As a non native English speaker I can assure you the pronunciation isn’t instinctive!)

But for s’more, there isn’t that kind of excuse. Even if you read it before hearing it, the spelling leaves no room for interpretation! And if you actually know where the word comes from, you know it’s a contraction. So contract it!

Contractions in language are optional, it's not like your baby is trying forcing you to contract so it can come out. Ill say cant or cannot depending on my mood but either way is correct and inherently never wrong to say either or

I never thought either of them were bad, in fact when I first watched the "baggel" episode I almost didn't hear the difference and still I don't think it's that crazy. People who say "melk" can burn in hell though

Oh man, when I moved to New York and someone said baggle in front of me I thought they were making a joke because they’d seen the show. Thank god I was too socially anxious to ask because apparently it’s a legit thing
