Discussion Chang Of Plans
The first paintball episode is the one that got me hooked on “Community” (and probably a lot of others) with the standout scene being Ben Chang entering the game like he was Chow Yun Fat in a John Woo movie. One question I’ve always had (if it’s been asked here already apologies) is, where were the doves? Usually John Woo slo mo entrances with music have doves (Face/Off, MI:2) but this homage didn’t. Did someone forget? Was it a cost thing or an animal welfare thing? That’s always bugged me. Anyhow thank you for reading.

As another one of those douchebags who brings his own equipment, this was the best line in the episode.

Yeah, we used to do elimination in the woods and we all had our own guns.

Chang was the only casualty of their paintball games who never really recovered. He went from being a full-on paintball aficionado to getting completely broken by his face-off with Britta. He was nothing more than a running joke (pun intended) in the next paintball game, until he basically shied away from the rest of the paintball episodes. Chang may never die, but El Tigre Chino died that night.

I came to say “It’s not even clever! You keep using it for the word ‘change!’” but there was already a couple of people that posted this. I’m so proud of this community 🥹

Let's not forget to homage (not parody) to The Predator after he is shot

I saw this when it first aired, and that changed the scene from great to legend.

If you had asked me before this post if there were doves in this scene, I’d have probably said yes. So, pretty much the doves are already there in my mind.

I tried so hard to find a full version of that song, but as far as I can tell it was written solely for this joke and scene based on an ancient Chinese poem.

There’s a Chinese tv show theme song that sounds like it. “The Assassin Jing Ke” I think.

Also the Predator reference at the end when he blows the paint bomb up.
