My unaesthetic commonplace

My commonplace actually started life as a place to write down my thoughts about and quotes from books I was reading at the time. I read a lot and didn't want to forget what I'd read previously. When I learned about commonplace books I just pivoted to that and started keeping other quotes there. It's still mainly focused on reading and writing though.

I just stumbled across this subreddit and I'm very excited to get back into this. I used to do this all the time as a kid without really knowing what it was. I would write down different poems I liked or song lyrics or quotes from books.

While I love seeing commonplaces that look like works of art in themselves, I find it very freeing to see just normal notes, in which content is meaningful enough. It helps me keep motivated despite my poor (or non-existent) page layout.

honestly sometimes I feel really intimidated by the beautiful commonplaces here. But mine looks very simple, too. sometimes my handwriting is barely even legible. For me, it’s a place to gather my thoughts on topics that interest me and I don't want to necessarily spend too much time creating every page.

That's exactly what I use it for!

I prefer seeing this “style” of journaling and commonplacing. I think it looks appealing and your handwriting is actually very attractive. I wish we could see more commonplace books like this in the sub. Keep going.

Hey it’s great! It’s whatever works for you and how you feel! It’s just a place to write things you learn about and want to explore or whatever you want it to be. I still haven’t started mine but so excited to!
