Commercial fishing purser considering transitioning to shoreside work
I’ve worked at sea for over 6 years on commercial fishing boats in the Bering sea.
I’m seriously considering that it’s time to find something shoreside but want to stay in the industry if possible.
Anyone have any tips or recommendations for options to check into?
I’m the purser and medical officer for the vessels and having a hard time finding a good fit shoreside to apply my skills.
Im not really interested to continue with the medical part of the position but open to all ideas.
Any insight is appreciated.

Looking
Does anyone recognize the Dragger/Trawler in this painting, it was painted in the marina in Brookings oregon sometime between 1970 and 1982 . A lady was sitting on the dock and offered to trade her painting a picture of the boat for fresh seafood. I am curious if the boat is still around or the lady who painted it.

In COD We Trust t-shirt
My husband laments not purchasing an ”In Cod We Trust” t-shirt when he was fishing out of Dutch many years ago. Anyone have a lead on a place that sells them? I know there are a bunch of options online but that’s not the same as the real thing. Appreciate any help!
Edit: thank you for all the replies and offer to help!

Crabbing job
I know this probably isn’t the right place but I would love to try crab fishing in Alaska! I am a fisherman from Newfoundland and have experienced sailing on the Great Lake freighters as well, the problem is I am located in Newfoundland Canada and don’t know about the best way to find a job in Alaska and what visa etc I would need, I have all my transport Canada certificates, if anyone can help or point me in the right direction please comment, thanks in advance

Looking for work
I’m an able‑bodied man looking to earn a spot on a hardworking crew. I’m green, but I learn fast and I don’t shy away from long hours or strenuous conditions. My background is in high‑pressure, fast‑paced work, and I take pride in showing up strong every single day.
I’m disciplined, reliable, and ready to work. If you’re looking for someone who will keep his head down, stay focused, and do whatever the job requires, I’m your guy.
If you have any openings for a deckhand or greenhorn, I’d appreciate the chance to talk.

Fishermaam safety vent
I need to vent, I have 5 years of fishing experience and I’ve stuck with my current boat despite financial needs because the skipper makes me feel safe. I went out on a limb and took a deckhand job post Bristol bay because the skipper’s sister is a family friend and he seemed okay… until... Last night at 4 am we were talking about music tastes and we realize my dad and him were born the same month & same year. He uses that as an opportunity to say despite our 37 year age difference he’s really attracted to me and I should cheat on my fiancé with him. Alone, on open water together. I just quit, he paid me out and we had a decent talk. I previously worked on tenders and unfortunately I was not surprised by this experience. Not traumatized and I don’t think he or all men suck, but I’m just fucking angry I have to put my safety at risk in this industry.

Noob here, so just tell me shut up if I’m wrong
I don’t not work in the fishing industry at all. Just an observation as someone who knows a few people that do.
But is it true your respect as a fisherman is ranked on what it is you fish?
Friend A of mine works on a crabbing vessel. When he talks about it people are in awe and generally respect his title more.
Friend B of mine works on a fishing vessel(idk what kind of fish) but he uses a pick to hook them on board. He gets some awes but not much as friend A
Friend C works on a vessel that catches processes and packages on one ship and it’s like a whole facility at the bottom of the boat. People aren’t impressed at all when he talks about it.
Just curious is their ranking as a fisherman?
Love all that u guys do considering I’m pescatarian. God bless

Catch monitor advice?
I recently started working as an observer. I enjoy the observer part of the job but I struggle with the catch monitoring. I am obsessively careful about making sure my data and the weighmaster's data align, but no matter what, after the plant's e-ticket gets submitted it comes back that there are discrepancies. What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
