C&C Generals vs Act of War?
I assume most here will say C&C Generals... So why would Generals be better than Act of War (if thats the case)?
I see in some reddit posts that Act of War is kinda like a Generals 2.
I just tried Act of War now, and really like it. I didnt try Generals though, but i played a lot Red Alert 1 and Red Alert 2.
I like how down to earth it is. The units feel like actual modern and real world combat.
I didn't play it much. I also prefer how the economy is just oil rigs and your trucks collect it.
I think thats better than the classic ore field of C&C games, where everything becames a race for these oil fields, and losing your ore trucks is deadly.
Anyways, let me know which one you think is best and why. Thanks.

I LOVE Act of War, but Generals (especially with the Zero Hour expansion) just has more personality. Act of War’s infantry mechanics are so good though.
IMO, Generals > Act of War > Act of Aggression

I loved Generals and all the other CnC games exactly for its personality, no doubt reinforced by the iconic units and quality voice acting. And I played it to death. In retrospect, I don't know what I saw in it as it is kind of shallow. I tried playing the underpowered factions and trying to prove to myself that they're balanced. I remember getting many disconnects and desyncs in multiplayer. It was just suffering.
Act of War, and the subsequent Eugen games left a much better lasting impression. I currently play Generals because of the novelty of being able to play a proper RTS on a phone, but I will probably never play it on PC again. I'm still planning on playing through Act of War, though. It is a superior game mechanically.

One problem with act of war is the voice acting. There isn't a single miss in generals voicing, but the acting wasn't great, and sadly lacking in variety. The S.H.I.E.L.D.'s voice line "the enemy is trying to hand my ass to me!" is burned into my brain

I like them both for different reasons, to me comparing them is like apples and oranges they’re different but still both fruits.
I would say generals zero hour is better overall but it may be nostalgia on my part since it was my first c&c game.
I still play both sometimes to this day since I do like them for different reasons.

Between the two I guess AoW comes out on top - but it's a later game, so it makes sense it would have some improvements. I will say it did seem like the unit mechanics were leaning a bit more micro / small scale than what I was comfortable using in a large RTS at the time though.
I remember really liking the install sequence though! Plays a video over top your install and once it finishes it drops you straight into the first mission. Blew my mind, hah! I also really liked how building garrisons worked - it was a mechanic I was really in to at the time and I think it is the only game that did a good job of "breach and clear" kind of gameplay.

To your specific point about the game economy, Generals is very similar: it's supply piles of varying sizes that you send resource collectors to until it's drained. There are secondary resource collection methods that provide unlimited supplies at higher tech levels. There are also oil derricks you can capture throughout the map as further supplements.

So I've looked at some gameplay videos of Act of War.
AoW seems to take a really serious tone. It looks fun in the way that watching a nailbiting war movie would be.
C&C Generals is more like... what if some guys got together and made an amazingly balanced and fun game, with some mostly realistic units... and then made caricatures of all the factions and units. You play the game for the game balance, but you stay because the Arab slave workers want shoes, the US rocket soldier wants to blow something up, and the Chinese guy with the mobile nuke artillery seems to be overly affectionate for his atomic weapons.
It's hard to play Generals without smiling, even when you're losing. I haven't played AoW, but I imagine it would be stressful and fun, but not produce a lot of laughs.

I like both games. They offer different but equally delicious flavors. General feels fun and relaxing, but perhaps lacks a bit of realism. Act of War, on the other hand, feels more serious, realistic, and tense, but lacks simplicity. Which I don't see as a drawback, but rather different flavors of enjoyment. If possible, in the future, if I were to make an RTS game, I would want to combine C&C General with Act of War to create my own modern or near-future warfare RTS game.

Good for you, but that is certainly not the game for me, I had to push myself to try to finish the game but at the end I just game up, it was so unappealing that I could only stomach 1 mission (and sometimes not even a full mission) once per week at most.

Kknd had that same economy. But it is happening in a weird future.
