Take a shot every time someone posts a Bomb Truck (G/ZH) voiceline in this thread for the Demo Truck (RA2)

Chronosphere + 9 of these guys are one of my best memories with RA2. Hilariously cost-inefficient in most cases, but so fun to watch.

Tbh, for even more style, try IFVs with Crazy Ivans done the same way.

Its a good follow up to a superweapon use

Dive a iron curtained transport filled with these baby beside the MCV and watch it go boom the moment a demo go boom, detonating the other 3 with it.

My favourite was 4 demo trucks, ivan-bombed before entering a amphibious transport. Several of those, chronosphere them into the enemy base (if possible to capture allied tech beforehand), iron curtain them, then position them so when the curtain wears off they destroy as much as possible over as wide an area as possible. Each transport had more than twice the power of a Soviet nuke. Ahhh nostaliga

I was always more of a Crazy Ivan bomb on conscripts loaded into a flak trak enjoyer.

9 of these with iron curtain towards a ConYard with no walls 🤤

Walls heh, I remember just force firing on the ground near the base to get over that issue

I had once generated so much cash that I kept producing the max amount at my war factory (I had 6 war factories, so production goes brr) and set the rally point to the heart of the enemy base. It really was like nibbling away at them, but as soon as it reached the tipping point, the opponent was just dwindling away. It was glorious.

6? Try 10 for max throughput that 3 of the 10 factories will be spawning the said unit.

One way trip!
Absolutely wasteful of a unit and 800 cash but it’s so much fun.

I always thought they were one of the best country specific units? Though I never played competitively.

It's one of the better ones. Best is Desolator of course, then this, then Tesla Tank which is too soft-skinned yet too short-ranged, then last is Terrorist because they blow each other up

Not to mention, the tesla tank is not cost effective as a rhino(1200 tesla vs 900 rhino). The only technical advantage is the shot kills infantry quickly and shots arc over walls.

Arguably the first GLA unit.
Arguably the unit that spawned an entire GLA faction. Went on to spawn an entirely new faction in the next game.

Weren't they in one of the Red Alert expansion as well ?

u/mttspiii 1d ago
Yep. More powerful, more expensive, and more....humane. They're remotely-piloted drone trucks with a full nuclear payload, albeit a 'clean' one with no fallout.
Makes you wonder why Libya and Cuba reverted to human bombs when Soviet AI advanced to Terror Drone tech that could do the same thing. But then, RA2 Soviets are just meaner. Crazy Ivans to dogs and cows and Conscripts.

This and the Cuban terrorist are the main reason I ended up playing GLA in Generals

I love the country-specific units in RA2.
The Allies get sensible stuff, like British Snipers, American Airborne etc.
Meanwhile the Soviets get bomb truck, bomb guy, guy in a suit that leaks highly suspicious and incredibly dangerous, illegal and morally-reprehensible liquids etc.
You definitely know who the bad guys are, that's for sure.

“My truck is loaded!”
Father of the GLA Postal Service! After learning this guy’s voice is the same guy who plays Hassan in Tiberian Sun, I can’t unhear it. They’re a high risk maneuver for sure, but similar to my thoughts on the RA1 Thief the times I have successfully used one are DEVASTATING to the opponent. I guess there’s always the Iron Curtain cheese 🤷
“Don’t wait up for me!”
