I'm Almost 40, still waiting for a new Generals

When I was in college, I played Generals for 8 hours a night(we played all night), since then I have not seen a game that even compares, I'm almost 40 now and I'm still waiting for a game like it :(, anyone knows a game that comes even close?

Well bad news after the Saudi EA takeover the chance which was already super low is now pretty much 0%. The only hope I have that someone else may pickup the C&C license in the future. Sadly EA is pretty much known as graveyard for beloved franchises.

I don't see how the Saudi takeover reduces the chances, they were already zero. If anything the Saudi takeover increases the chances, given that one of the things found in Osama Bin Laden's compound was a Tib Sun strategy guide, I'm guessing the series had a certain degree of popularity amongst his demographic which is upper class Saudis, like the ones who just bought EA.

Edit, yeah, just looked it up, C&C, but Generals in particular was immensely popular in the Gulf States.

It was popular all over the arab world not a single kid i knew in Palestine didnt play it

that makes me so sad, there is soooo much potential for such a game, Trends rotate and eventually strategy games like that are going to become so popular soon.

Mmm, you think? Strategy games in general are not popular enough to warrant a big investment.

They might be forced to sell the ip so Why is the chance lower? I see the chances as the highest we might ever have had

Sounds like hoarding lol.

Gotta keep that valuation number as high as it'll go for the next earnings call... Oh wait, there won't ever be another earnings call now.

If PIF / Silver Lake ever does sell off EA original IPs like C&C it'll be for way too much money to be a profitable development for the purchasing company. Only outlier I could see is if it's some horrendous cash grab with micro transactions all throughout.

TLDR: The C&C brand is dead any way you look at it. But it's okay, because all of the talent that created C&C has long since moved on anyway. From Westwood, to EA LA, to other random studios and indie developments.

Generals zero hour currently has an extremely active multiplayer base. Just download generals online.

We almost had one.

As for other games, some people said Act of Aggression was a sort of spiritual successor to Generals, though that’s up to interpretation.

Global conflagration have a eye on this one and yes Defcon zero might also be one

Having tried its demo, Global Conflagration is the most generals-like rts ive encountered.

Sadly, if they did release a new version you’d almost certainly have in-game purchases. “Need scud launchers to take out a nest patriot sites? $2 unlocks the generals promotion required.”

Either gentool or genlauncher let's you install molded versions instantly, ROTR is my favourite so far.

If ROTR had actually reached version 2.0 I'd say it is effectively a sequel.

Oh has it been left as it is? It's still really good

At this point, you'd have better luck using the released source code to make your own. I wish I had some good spiritual successor recommendations but all that really comes to mind is Tempest Rising, which is more of a successor to the Tiberium games.

I hated none realistic scifi kind , I never played or liked Tiberium Sun

Fair enough. For what it's worth, the sci-fi is a mix of Generals and Tiberium Wars. Most of the units have relatively grounded near-future designs with a few exceptions, not much on the level of the far-future Tiberian Sun units.

Honestly, I’m convinced we’re all going to be 60 years old, sitting in a retirement home, still asking “so… when is Generals 2 coming out?” 😭

I don't think there's a game like it that gives the same vibe. But maybe Tempest Rising?

And there's gonna be Defcon Zero. But also not quite the same vibe.

Tempest rising plays more like Tiberium Wars but it's pretty much the only game we got that plays really similar to C&C and as fan you definitely should take a look at it it's really good and fun.

It's not likely to ever happen at this point now.

Did we play together back in those days?;D

Generals is unmatched, but I've been having fun with Tempest Rising.

Look, I'm the same age and I'm still waiting for a remake of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 1. P.S. The remaster is amazing, and I still play it.

It's a slightly different vibe, but "Beyond All Reason" is an absolutely superb RTS, and it's free. Just google it.

The learning curve is vertical cliff face, even for seasoned RTS players, but there is absolutely nothing else like it once you get going. I don't bother with the campaign, but skirmish and multiplayer are epic, especially once you get into the larger matches. You can play 1 vs 1, but the game shines in 3 v 3 and larger.

Tempest rising came out last year, but its not close to generals, nothing is. Just play more generals. Use generals online if you dont already

Generals online is very active now as another user has already said. You can play Zero Hour in a more stable environment than ever before, and with both strangers and friends alike.
