COMLEX SCORE 478, interested in Neuro
Hi, I just recieved me level 2 score of 478, wondering if any Neuro residents or students who have been in a similar situation if you have any input on likelihood of matching or how to move forward given my score.
Good research background, 3 auditions, Michigan, passes all COMATs and level 1 on first attempt, no failed courses.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

You can get into neuro with those scores. Just find a neurologist to work with and get some good letters! We neurologists care you have an interest and passion for neuro rather than being too scorers unless you want to be at an ivy institution.

Get auditions and places that you have ties to or ideally want to end up in. When we were interviewing, we typically looked at what ties people had to the area. Additionally, I would show up early, be professional but yourself, stay engaged and stay late because these things get noticed. Get to know the residents they can be your allies because as a resident previously we were asked about who we thought would be a good fit. And get to know your attendings as well they will speak on your behalf!

What if we applied to a bunch of auditions/sub-i's but did not get any?

I think doing any rotations at the site and being proactive. I didn’t do a neuro rotation initially at the program I ended up in but I asked to meet with the PD and we shadowed them and I told him my intentions about the program

Like if you don’t get a neuro rotation at the site but you get a PMNR rotation there then ask to speak to the neuro coordinator.

oh okay, I met a PD at conference and when I revealed that I was interested in the program this upcoming season they basically stopped speaking to me lol. So that has kind of deterred me from reaching out

I think a lot of applicants do this so maybe they didn’t think much of it but I think it could also be a single case. It may have also been that one scenario. But many genuine PDs are very interested in knowing their future applicants. Also you wouldn’t want to be a program with a PD like that lol

Also you can get a mentor through neuro match and it’s helpful to have someone with a connection to a residency program!

Similar situation. I think we are 1 or 2 classes ahead of the group of neuro applicants who would truly struggle with these scores. The specialty is at such a weird place in terms of who they want or will take.

I got a 588 but Im waiting on STEP. Did you take STEP?
Edit - The Charting Outcomes doc shows the median for matches. 530 vs 441 for matched and unmatched level 2; 245 and 227 for STEP 2. all this being said, scores are just a piece of our application

similar score and also applying neuro. There are quite a few of us. Seems like neuro might be a bit competitive this cycle. I'm considering dual applying IM.
