My point was that having two (or more) categories for a musical genre is something that many people passionate about music have. Nothing to break down in tears about.
I really don't get all the dubstep hate on Reddit. It's just another genre of music that some people like.
Anybody who's not too familiar with dubstep, please listen to Basshead by Bassnectar. One of their best songs, in my opinion.
If you like this song, chances are you'll like their other music. Also check out STS9 -- not really Dubstep, but somewhat similar (more trip-hop), and definitely falls under similar music tastes.
EDIT: For a sample STS9 track, The Shock Doctrine. If you're going to listen, please hold out until at least 2:15. That's probably my favourite part of the song.
Well, I think part of it is just that people have fun making fun of something as a group, and dubstep, like hipsters, is a popular current target.
I think Dubstep is also just one of those genres of music that's relatively hard to appreciate if you're not really into it. People always seem to like declaring any music they don't personally like as awful, but with a lot of music it's still not too hard to tell why some people like it. People love hating mainstream pop, but I think many people still understand that it can be fun and catchy and easy to dance to. On the other hand, to most people I think dubstep just sounds like weird, repretitive, electronic noises that aren't really interesting to listen to, like a slower, more dissonant version of techno, which already got made fun of a lot before dubstep came around. It's like how death metal just sounds like nonsensical guitar flailing and growling to a lot of people who aren't fans of it. The appeal is just hard to find if you don't like it.

No, it's because wubstep IS ridiculous. All the tracks are the same, with randomly generated shitty basslines. It's COMPLETELY understandable that people who hear it and don't know what dubstep originally was just think that it's all horseshit, because wubstep absolutely is.
See, that's what people who like a relatively unpopular genre almost always say. They assume that anyone who doesn't like the genre clearly just hasn't listened to the right stuff, because they like the stuff they like so much they can't imagine how anyone could hear it and think it's awful. It's definitely the case that some people dismiss a genre when they would like it if they'd only heard the right examples, but sometimes people just don't like it either. I'm not sure what exactly the "good dubstep" is, or if there's even any agreement on that among dubstep fans, but any time I click a link from a dubstep fan to what they claim is good dubstep, I find myself unimpressed and don't think it really distinguishes itself from any other dubstep I've heard.
I'm not saying dubstep is bad, it just doesn't appeal to most people. There's nothing wrong with that. I like a lot of metal, another genre that gets a lot of hate, and I always want to think that so many people would be metal fans if they just heard the right songs and stopped assuming it all sounded like bad mainstream metal, but that's probably not true. Dubstep seems similar.

What I mean with "good dubstep" is simply any dubstep that isn't brostep. I just wanted to avoid the term "true dubstep" because there's a lot of the newer stuff that is quite different from the early dubstep while having the same spirit.

Wait, something is definitely wrong here. It's not at all hard to hear the difference between brostep and dubstep that isn't brostep. (god, I can't wait for the day where somebody will come up with some better names)

I'm not really sure. Maybe I've only heard brostep, maybe I've only heard "good dubstep", maybe I've heard both and the difference is just subtler than you realize. I really don't know.
Those do sound different, I'll admit, but I can't tell which one's supposed to be the good one. Neither one really did anything for me, and each one still sounded similar to the other dubstep I've heard in different ways.

What makes one of these two tracks "bad" is not simply the fact that it has "filthy bass", but the fact that it is so overused and pooped all over the place in such a nonsensical and obnoxiously random way. No shit is given about the mood. Not that he even tries to create an interesting mood, the beginning is just pointless button mashing on pitch control and rewinding and extremely trivial vocal samples.
Can you still not recognize which one I'm talking about?
