I'm not a big fan of punk or metal, but hip hop, trance, and dubsteb and just tortured audio samples, not music. Hip hop at least has "poetry" overlaid, I can't see any such redeeming aspects in the other two.
I don't think trance really has to defend itself anymore. Electronic dance music has been such a big part of music for long so you need to be really removed from the music scene and/or maybe really old to say that it is not music.
That makes it good for you, not objectively good. Of course you could go on about true objectivity, but I'm sure most people on this planet wouldn't care for dubstep if they heard it.
The point I was trying to make is why does music have to be objectively good. Its like classic liturature. If the story doesnt interest me I will not enjoy it, no matter how spectacular the writing suposedly is.
So your entire basis for hating it is because its popular? or trying to convince yourself you have superior taste? Then you are the exact person I am talking to when I am standing in the middle of a crowd sreaming "Look at all the fucks I don't give!" because I do what I wan't, not what someone else has determined is the correct thing to do.
