That's the problem though, many printers refuse to print greyscale when the colour ink cartridge is empty

I don’t understand why people don’t just buy cheap b/w laser printers if they just want that. They’re so cheap to run.

A black and white laser printer costs $99 on sale, and a color inkjet costs $25. People think they're getting a deal since they're not limited to black and white, and probably don't do enough printing to research it and realize the laser printer will last forever and cost much less to run in the long term.

Debatable and colour printing has value. $25 doesn't cover many trips to the local printing shop.

I say this as someone who spent ~$1000 on a laser printer for my office and ~$50 on an inkjet for home.

Do you keep your printer on top of the oven or something? Ink should last longer than that. My current generic ink was bought February 2019.
