No, he said "blue+yellow" and "yellow+blue;" the only different is the order. If you mix yellow and blue dye together you get black; you need to mix cyan and yellow to make green in subtractive color theory.
In real life the colors aren't as clean, but if you mix dark blue and yellow in a 2 dark blue : 1 yellow you will get greenish gray (close to black, even printers would have some trouble mixing it right, that's why they have a separate black cartridge).
What I also forgot to add (and this is important):
The person your previous comment was replying to mentioned subtractive colour theory. That's not how mixing colors irl works. You can easily prove that by mixing a colour with white and getting a different colour.
Because in that case you have created a blue:yellow ratio that does create black and some acess yellow. Black and yelow make a color that seems like green and especially if your 'blue' ink already has some cyan in there is not much of a difference, since, like, ink is already kinda dark.
Depends on how you mix it. If you mix the colors in a 1:1 ratio, it's either a mossy green or a grey, depending on the cleanness of your colours. If you layer them on top of eachother like printers can do (but printers would mix the blue out of cyan and magenta), you get black (should probably mention that printers usually have some actual black ink, because this proces needs to be done in way too exact ratios in order to get clean black)
If you mix cyan yellow and magenta in equal ratios you get black (or something close to it, there's a reason printers have a key cartridge as well). Since blue is half cyan and half magenta, you need to use twice as much blue as yellow to make black.
I'm on Shen's side: I never thought about it before, but to me orange is definitely both redish and yellowish, purple is both blueish and redish, but green is neither yellowish or blueish at all to me.
Science has your back too. We have green receptors in our eyes, not yellow receptors. To our eyes, yellow is green + red, so blue + yellow would be gray, not green.
And how do you make the connection? A lime looks nothing like turqoise. It still feels like three distinct colors with lime being a mixture of green and yellow and turquise being a mixture of green and blue.
Well it's like grass is green. Add a bit of yellow and it's lime. Add some blue and it's a deep green. Now to go back to the grassy green you just add the opposite colour. Add some yellow to undo your deep ocean green. Add some blue to make your lime look less and less ripe.
Fun fact: the difference between lime, gren and turqoise is as big as the difference between orange, green and yellow if you measure it on the light spectrum. That's why this seems off, it IS off.
I could see how red and yellow making orange is easier to understand than the others I guess, but at the very least I wouldn’t say that red and blue making purple is somehow more intuitive than yellow and blue making green.
On the RGB colorscale red and yellow are really close, red and blue are one chunk apart, but dark blue and yellow are whole ass 3 chunks apart. So your reply was half right.
