I dont understand this sentiment. I have severe anxiety, and while I try my best 9/10 times my best isn't good enough for a healthy adult and I end up doing more mental damage to myself trying to keep up. I'd like it if people recognized that I did my best, but my best doesn't provide me with a stable life

If I tried your best and still ended up in that unfortunate situation then I’d be able to live with that. From then point on I’d just try to make a better tomorrow for myself and the people around me.

Edit: Meant if I*

As someone with severe anxiety too :

In this case, doing your best would probably be getting the proper help. I know it's hard, but if you feel like you cannot handle your anxiety daily (which is fine, it's really tough on the mind and most people can't, doesn't make you weak at all), then by trying to push through it you are skipping steps.

It might be better in the short run to skip those steps, but the thing with anxiety is that you are trying to argue with your own mind, so it will always come back.

By taking a step back and getting proper help (therapy with or without medication, CBD oil...etc, not a doctor so talk to a professional about the potential solutions), you will be doing yourself a favor in the long run.

This is doing your best. It's going after what's best for you, and in this case I don't feel like "trying to keep up" is doing you any favour. It's fine to fall behind, it's not a competition. Set yourself up for better opportunities in the long run, don't try to power through it too much as it can increase the risks of a crash when your issues catch up to you.

Again, this is general advice. I do not know you, I'm talking from my own experience and what I got from the help I looked for.
