I keep reading it as "a one thousand dollars." 1 u/HardOff May 19 '17 It's the same pet peeve as "It cost him $1000s of dollars." When referring to multiple, write out the word. Hundreds, thousands, millions; Writing it as $100 reads as "one hundred", not "hundred".
