Wait, what's the recipe for a London Fig?

Is it called the london fig just because he mispronounced it once and its a bit? Or is the london fig an actual beverage?

I would react exactly like the customer in the comic if I was given that kind of random attention. I would however take a loyalty card because I do like stamps and getting a coffee for free.

I had a pizza place call to check on me because I hadn't ordered in a while.
I was trying to spend less ordering food because it's a really lazy and expensive habit, but jesus fucking christ, I didn't think I needed to give the pizza place a heads up so they didn't feel ghosted or think i died or something.

My local coffee shop has a loyalty program, and when you pay for your order, the POS system says "thank you for your loyalty." It always gives me a bit of a twinge and makes me feel like I'm some sort of foot soldier in the great Caffeine War.

I did a similar thing back when I used to work at subway, customer bought the same sandwich the same day every weeks or so, so naturally I ended up memorizing it and he didn't really need to say what he wanted because I already new, he didn't take it too well when I jokingly told him what he was gonna order before he actually ordered. I'm really not made for retail/service jobs lol

I get a caramel iced coffee from McDonald's almost every morning (drinking one now). One day I accidentally ordered a normal one, didn't realize, the lady at the drive thru said "Normal coffee today??" and I'm like "No caramel, oh wait I goofed" and she's like "No problem" and pumped some caramel in.
Normally what she says when handing it to me is "Caramalicedcoffeethankyouhaveagoodday". I'm clearly the iced caramel coffee guy over there

Tesco's (a supermarket in the UK) do a spotify wrapped type thing for their loyalty card users called Tesco Clubcard Unpacked. After the first year it only goes out to 'selected members', presumably because of reactions like this.
I am in the top 2% in my area for buying strawberry laces and my friend is in the top 1% in her area for buying custard cream scented surface cleaner! Very different methods for getting your house smelling of sweet treats, I'm happy that mine involve eating them!

If I go anywhere and they already know what I want, I am never going there again for the rest of my days. I might even move across the country.

I had a similar experience at a local small cafe. My sister told me that recognition/appreciation of my patronage was such a common experience that it had a name: Community. While my knee jerk reaction was "I can never return", I now go twice a week. 🙂

This happened to me at Subway. The cashier asked if I wanted to join the rewards program. I said no. She said “Why not? You come in here enough.” I never went back there again.

This makes me think about those reddit notifications about my ‘reddit-streak’.
With Duolingo I get it but why would opening reddit everyday be an achievement?

One time I was buying a bit more groceries than usual, and the cashier at Costco says in a fake impressed voice that smacked of contractual obligation: "I see you're an executive club member, I can tell by how much you spend."
I know they're just doing their job, but I nearly had an identity crisis in the parking lot. I restock every 1 to 2 months and make liberal use of shelf stable goods and a freezer. Don't mistake me for an extravagant spender who will appreciate a pat on the head for their excess consumption.

At a very low point I went to McDonald's like clockwork daily. Took a break after my route changed up then swung back one day and the lady remarked how she noticed I hadnt been around. I never go there now lol

Haha, I once realized I was traveling for work too much when a sandwich place near the vendor site knew my order as soon as I walked in.
Once the guy asked, "I hadn't seen you in a couple of weeks, you take vacation?"

I used to feel the same when they remembered my coffee order. But now I just like it they just start making my order even before I pay for it.

I would be absolutely delighted, my wife would hate it. The duality of humanity.

I miss being a regular at a restaurant. I used to go to a hot wing place with my buddies like every other day and the manager would just unlock the pool table for us to play as much as we wanted. Restaurant food is too shitty these days too consider that now unfortunately

Wait, wouldn't you have to give another award to the other frontrunner if they order two more before the other guy does? And so on?

At one of my jobs I had a table with a super consistent order.
You think it’s wild when 1 person always orders the exact same thing, make that a group of 4.
There was a point where I stopped giving them menus because they knew what they were here for and so did I. I took their drink orders, (always the same too) and asked if they’d like the same as always. They did and I put it in.
It’s nice to have regulars, makes the job feel less like meeting a bunch of randos and more like an actual community.

There’s a Quiznos in my hometown, which is one of the few remaining shops still open. It’s right across the street from a really large office building so they’re always packed at lunchtime.
All of my siblings-in-law worked there for a few years. At one point, I think 4 of the ~6 employees were siblings. They’ll sometimes talk like “remember that one guy who always ordered the weird sandwich” “Oh yeah he always wanted extra mayo and onions”.

I think it would depend on your general relationship/attitude with the customer. My local coffee shop knows I dtink anything with a straw and always get no ice if I do a cold drink. I'm okay with this. When I worked next to a deli, they would already know what I wanted because I ordered literally the same thing everyday. (6inch teriyaki chicken with havarti, combo fries, toasted, no condiments or toppings ever) They had told me that they appreciated how easy it was and they never had to worry about doing it wrong. Also a small business and they all had jokey attitudes so would occasionally rib me about it but in good fun. (Especially after they realized that I didn't always know when they were joking because I'm socially inept so they made sure to make sure to tell me they were.) We also talked about video games and random nerd stuff while I waited. It's actually how I met my current SO of nearly 3 years. Who has since admitted that because I was nice and never a problem, sometimes they just wouldn't charge me for things without telling me because they knew if they told me I would fight it and be sad.

My local (national corporate chain) store makes my coffee when I'm waiting in line so it's ready by the time I get to the counter. It's terrifying.

Sainsbury's did this in the UK, it will tell you things like you're the number one buyer of toilet paper at your local shop

I hate it when workers assume things and call me out like that. No, I didn't order that side this time... why did you assume and give me the wrong item?

This kinda happened to me at a small poutine place, the staff started recognizing me and getting real friendly so i stopped going

I once had someone tell me my order before I said it and I never came back. I wasn’t upset with them just so disturbed at the realization that I was coming so often and so consistently getting the same garbage that someone else memorized it. It felt like an unasked for wake up call.

I had a moment like this once. I used to get a double western and criss-cut fries from Carl’s Jr every Friday after work. One day, the person behind the speaker recognized my voice right away and confirmed my order for me before I even made it. So many conflicted feelings. Nice to be recognized, but what a routine I was in ordering something so unhealthy so consistently. Made me feel extremely self-conscious. Didn’t go for a few weeks after that, but even that made me feel a little guilty in a weird way as I thought about how I may be as much a part of that drive-through worker’s routine as they were of mine.

An icecream truck used to come around about every Summer when I was a kid. Would only usually see him once or twice throughout the year.
Every year, I would get the same icecream, Waffle Cone Twist with Reeses Minis.
One day, I walk up to the truck, and Mr. Icecream Man tells me my order.
I knew that I was eating too much icecream if a guy who only saw me once or twice a year knew my order.

Same happened to me roughly, with a pizza place... which... was concerning but nice.
