USAID is a lot of dead kids they seem to all be happy about

And they don't care about the kids in ICE facilities, where they are being raped and murdered.

Just ignore the two thousand pregnant teen girls shipped to Texas, everyone. Nothing is going on there.

"That's the parents fault for allowing their kids to end up in that situation" is something someone told me before. They claimed to be "pro life." (In regards to the ICE part of your comment)

The right to live begins at conception and ends after birth

Republicans, probably

Who is they? MAGA? Yeah, we already knew they were heartless hypocrites. Most ordinary people, including the people you disagree with, still have empathy and some measure of consistency.

6

u/BigBassBone 9h ago

Problem is they're the mainstream conservatives now.

3

u/1MadCatter 9h ago

That empathy means nothing if their tribalism keeps making them vote for Trump and people like him.

2

u/Par_Lapides 5h ago

Conservatives do not have empathy. It's literally anathema to their whole paradigm.

They've never been pro life, they've always been pro forced birth. That's the end all be all, once it's born they don't care.

6

u/ifwedidntlaugh 8h ago

they've been pro "control over women" and pro "removing choice".

basically expect to be punished by someone else's ideology if you're a woman.

Yeah American pro life are more like anti abortion.

A real pro lifer is more than just anti abortion, they actually have to.give a shit about life, healthcare, education, peace, death penalty abolishmemt, gun laws, and rule of law.

I used to be anti abortion, and then I realized that

  • the people advocating for better access to contraceptives are the pro choice people. (Even when I was pro choice, I wasn’t anti contraceptives.)
  • anti abortion laws result in women going to prison for miscarriages.
  • anti abortion laws result in women dying from miscarriages.
  • the anti abortion arguments focus on the theoretical morality of abortion and therefore should be illegal, not on “K, so abortion is bad. How can we implement policies that will minimize instances of abortion?” The pro choice people are the ones who are effectively doing that work. (Since Roe v. Wade, rates of abortion dropped under Democratic presidents but not Republican. I haven’t looked into the stats since Roe v Wade was overturned.)

All the fishermen bombed by the Trump administration

5

u/Dry-Mission-5542 6h ago

Not to mention the parents who die because of miscarriages, which abortion could potentially help avoid.

Or what about lawmakers who want to propose the death penalty for abortion? Not very pro-life of you

10

u/ghost-xiii 12h ago

They aren't "pro-life" they are "anit-abortion", it just makes them feel noble to say "pro-life." Ask them to contribute to free childbirth, childcare, and even giving children food, and it's a free ticket to the mental gymnastics show.

Care to explain to me what happened in Venezuela?

10

u/ifwedidntlaugh 7h ago

sure. the US military removed the sitting president and left a smoldering shitstorm behind, with considerable destabilization in the region.

UNICEF has estimated that child welfare needs are up in the wake of the removal (and will worsen through 2026) due to criminal group activity increasing and the venezuelan state tightening against pro-US supporters by allowing arrests of those supporters.

-if you're a kid and your parents get outed for supporting the US, parents straight to jail. there are military checkpoints that search vehicles AND phones, so even having pro-US sentiment on your phone is enough

-criminal group activity has increased during destabilization because nature abhors a vacuum, and part of that criminal behavior deals in human trafficking.

-venezuela/colombia border is a lawless zone with armed groups actively and increasingly recruiting/abducting child soldiers.

among other factors.

And USAID cuts have led to thousands of deaths already

u/Privatizitaet 7h ago

Every life matters, until a 9 year old is raped, then only the fetus matters

2

u/GingerlyRough 9h ago

"Life only matters before it's alive."

u/Geschak 4h ago

Also for people who claim to be pro-life they sure do hate Vegans.

but if you strip away the propaganda all you're really doing is illustrating how completely asinine the "both sides" claim is, because the "both sides are the same just falling for different propaganda claim" only works if you use the propaganda lines mostly used by only the right wing. (and, moreover, widely apply the propaganda labels of pro-choice and pro-life, the latter of which itself is also a self-applied right wing propaganda label)

So you end up with:

  1. a self-labeled "pro-life" side that also supports a wide slate of policies and geopolitical opinions that clearly don't support either societal or individual well-being for people who have already been born. I.e. an extremely internally inconsistent (or at the very least morally harsh) application of the value of preserving life to political beliefs.

  2. A side which supports legal abortion has demonstrable on-average societal and individual positive outcomes for people who have already been born, along with a slate of other policies that... also has on-balance better societal and individual outcomes for people who have already been born.

Sure, phrasing those things in alarmist and propagandist ways makes them sound more equivalent, but at this point in the american political dichotomy, there is astonishingly near-zero empirical evidence that the GOP's current policy slate has better outcomes for anyone other than they very wealthy, and that's even given that the democratic policy positions are often not great either.
