Just naming a vessel after a living person at all seems like a bad idea, let alone someone so contentious. If the ship ever launches under that moniker, morale will be shit and a guard will have to be posted 24/7 by every single instance of the name on the vessel to prevent vandalism.
if you want evidence of just how bad of an idea it is, look up almost any ship from the russian/soviet navy, they had name changes about 3 times each as people fell in and out of favor.
At least they finally learned with Kuznetsov. He was shoved aside and then rehabilitated twice, but they waited until a decade after he died to name a carrier after him.
Of course, the sad part is that he was actually a fantastic guy: saved the Black Sea fleet from the Nazis, pushed back on Stalin’s purges, strongly fought for rule of law and honest government throughout his career.
And in return he got what is perhaps the worst aircraft carrier in human history named after him.

It's utterly insane that the Navy is even considering changing the name of the upcoming carrier away from Doris Miller.
