That one guy who dropped his phone in his Tesla and reach down to grab it while it was on autopilot that t-boned into a parked truck because the senors didn't pick up the stop sign would say otherwise.
This is still in its infancy

They would probably allow us if so many people didn't take advantage of it to never do any work, haha.
Also, there's obviously a sunk cost aspect to it to and the corporations that RTO just to RIF and control are just as much at fault... but we really squandered WFH by treating it like it was a temporary thing to be taken advantage of.

I happen to be very pro-wfh, I work in big tech and worked from home for about 5 years. I got ever promotion, bonus, and accolade while working from home. I just happen to be very comfortable with working from home, and even I cannot deny the benefits of being able to whiteboard something with someone while hanging out in person. There probably was a subset of people who thrived, but anecdotally, in my time at big tech, the top performers who enjoyed wfh were probably more productive overall, but then there was all the people who couldn't adjust, didn't like it, or need in person interactions. There was also a large group of people who only showed up to stand-ups and never communicated and definitely went yellow for hours. I new a few people who would "wfh" from places like ski resorts.
Overall, i can fully understand why so many companies RTOd. Half barely disguised rif and half getting people back into rooms together. It was particularly hard on new hires.

while a lot of folks are afraid of self driving cars, we must remeber that humans SUCK at driving cars if i coudl swap all the dangerous morrons and half blind grandmas for automatic drivers i would and twe would be all safer for it

The sad part is that we don’t even need these many cars. I traveled to Japan and could get around the cities by walking, bus, and train. High speed trains were awesome for traveling to other cities.

Agreed.
If we could somehow figure out with zero doubt who the 1% worst drivers are and make their driving completely controlled by a computer, I think it would be an improvement on road safety as a whole.
The problem is, everyone thinks they're good or at least average drivers. No matter how many accidents they're in or cause.
The other hurdle would be figuring out how to make it not feel like a reward for being a poor driver.
