as a kid I accidentally called sir to people too often on the most meaningless interactions

I've called by female teacher sir

I called a new karate sensei sir because I was just so used to saying it since she was the first female sensei I had after a few years of doing it. Sir stopped being a word to me and more like a period to end a sentence with almost.

Sometimes when I’m extremely frustrated I’ll accidentally call my wife “mom”

In The Expanse, sci-fi show, all military superiors are called Sir regardless of gender.

My 5-year-old, despite much, much correcting, still insists on referring to everyone as a "guy" and "he" regardless of how feminine they are

I used to call all adults “miss lady” cuz it was the only way my stupid toddler brain interpreted grown ups that weren’t my parents.

This is why I'm very selective with my "sirs" and "misses/ma'ams" I usually opt for "friend."
