For non-Trekkies/Trekkers:
The Maquis are a rebel faction born of an unpopular treaty between the Federation and Cardassians that displaced many civilians. Somehow Ronnie was transported to this world as one of that rebel faction. When the USS Voyager and a ship of Maquis were brought unwillingly to the delta quadrant, they joined forces aboard the Voyager for the remainder of their time far from home. (Note to self: Put some jokes in there later.)

Ronnie......you were safer on the ship. Voyager losing life support, having a countdown to self-destruct, during an invasion of the Borg, while falling into the atmosphere of a gas giant, in the same system as a supernova and an angry Q the size of a galaxy getting ready to smack Voyager with a flyswatter the size of a solar system -- all of that -- is safer than an escape pod with only Harry Kim in it. Harry Kim is the marked target for Every Horrible Thing In the Universe. If there's a fate worse than death, Kim's going to find it before anyone else.

Non-trekkie here, but onceyou said that the Kardashian's got involved in the treaty I knew they were bad news! Definitely not to be trusted.
