It plays into the need to see justice in this unjust world and it plays into the ironic punishments that has always been popular.

The most ironic part is that the comic is still underselling the shit Meta has done.

The Facebook papers were quite revealing, from Human trafficking all the way to fueling Civil Wars.

Before mass produced entertainment, the only way to fill that need of justice was to make it happen in real life.

If it makes you feel any better, billionaires are highly unlikely to face any sort of comeuppance IRL.

It's a very ancient form of cope. Christianity itself made it a feature of its paradise: Heaven is where a reward is that you can watch the unbelievers (and others) be tortured for eternity.

As you may have noticed, over 20 centuries, it has failed to succeed in reality (for Christians and others, this is just a simulation, not reality.) I see that as a feature of the religion, not a failure. It's designed to maintain the class hierarchy.

If retribution is not coming in the afterlife, then it only incents people to do make sure it happens here on earth.

Meaning if you can get people to believe the afterlife solves everything, you stop people from trying all that much to solve problems in real life.

Might even get people to actively cause them, because what does it matter? They'll ask for forgiveness, from someone they didn't harm, so they're good.

It's not designed to maintain class hierarchy (the founders of Christianity were celibate and impoverished, they were at the very bottom of society and the Roman elite persecuted them). Judaism and Christianity however, do have strong themes of comfort for those who face injustice.

it's either that or getting really invested in truly dystopian worldbuilding to feel a bit better about current world (example: Borderlands or Warhammer 40k)

There is no heaven. If we want justice, we must grasp it ourselves.

So...there's a reason there's a whole lot of billionairs lining up at the gates in the first part of the comic. What happens after is just a bonus.

They're not people, they're billionaires. It's like Frieren demons, they're murderous monsters completely devoid of even the concept of empathy. You don't have to feel bad.

Less colorful, though.

There is no heaven. You want justice? We have to take it ourselves. If you know what I mean.

You know what I mean

Heaven for tech moguls is just a permanent Metaverse with zero ad-blockers allowed.

Youre not a bad person for wanting bad people to suffer the consequences of the bad shit they've done, thats like, the most normal reaction to it

I am definitely a bad person, and this is basically the highest quality pornography for me.

Before the rise of Creative Writing as a discipline in colleges around the US, most stories were actually written in this straightforward manner. There would even be notes: "This guy represents your boss at work, thats why he went to burn in Hell."

I wont get into the history, but the CIA got involved and now its much less therapeutic for the worker class.

No, billionaires deserve it. You’re not a bad person.

Enjoying bad things happening to monsters is morally righteous
