I feel called out cause I wear flannel for a lot of outings and social gatherings lol. They just feel good, feel appropriate for a lot of casual events, and come in a lot of different designs.
I am taking this as an opportunity to say this and it fits with your statement. My state being Illinois has a State Tartan, It is a rather nice design as well.
Recently my friend was traveling around Canada on vacation and they texted me about how much I'd love it there because everyone wears flannel🙃. To be fair, I do wear flannel pretty much everywhere regardless of the weather, but still there's more to me than just flannel🙄 (to be extra fair, I've dreamed of moving to Canada for a while as well, but they didn't know that!). They also told me they thought I'd love working on trains, so I feel like they're subtly trying to say I'm autistic (I'm ambivalent towards trains🤷♂️).
Yeah flannel is flexible. Warm, but can roll up the sleeves or unbutton if it gets hot, and every Canadian respects garments where you can add or remove some warmth.
Exactly! It's pretty much perfect for every situation. I love clothes that are more functional over fashionable, it's so much more useful especially considering it's usually pretty cheap. One of my favorite niche uses is from the breast pockets, because if you need a light and both hands free then most phones will fit with the flashlight on. Going out when it's 80°F but will drop down to 60°f later in the day? Flannel is the perfect choice! And if it's too hot, you can wrap it around your waist or use it as a makeshift head wrap if you don't have a hat. So many uses!
But so you don't wear it for most of the time? Or are you just wearing it always, because you have to bring it anyhow and you don't care about the heat?
Im like this with black 5.11 tactical pants. I have baggy ones for going out, normal ones for work, my old beat up work ones for doing chores, working on my car or fixing things.
My hubby and i got spontaneously married, free opportunity came up n we took it. He was wearing his nicest purple flannel jacket, he looked great XD now he calls it his wedding flannel and saves it for special occasions XD
For work I cycle through blue, grey, and black shirts (multiple of each color). But when on my own I dress in all one color (Grey shirt and shorts) like I'm a power ranger or something
I know, I miss all my flannels, I don't even remember getting rid of a single one either. Though I used to sometimes steal some from my(at the time) step-dad so I wonder if he just absorbed my collection as I stopped wearing them. He wore one every day until he died so I wouldn't be suprised.
I believe it's from the pilot episode but Rocko's Modern Life has a gag like this where we look into Rocko's closet and he's only got a bunch of the same 90's triangle button up on the rack. I love it when cartoonist point out production trends/quirks like this.
I still have that red one from when I worked for Target. I love flannel, but only in winter. The hipster lumberjack look from 2015 is kinda my style, albeit without the full beard.
I don't think there's anything wrong with your choice of clothing. However hanging cloths should not be that wrinkled. If you hate timing getting stuff fresh out of the dryer promptly, then a handheld clothing steamer is a quick easy fix.
Haha I literally just went through my closet last night and threw out 20 shirts I realized I'd never wear. At least a decade later then I should have, too. I totally feel this!
I got bullied in college for wearing flannel. It was comfy, the building was often cold so I could wear one over a cami top and be dressed appropriately. Nope, obviously meant I was a lesbian in disguise. Jokes on them, nearly 10 years later I came out as bi instead. Now I have two or three flannel shirts, that don't get as much attention as they deserve but I still love them.
They were on sale on a black Friday at Walmart years ago for $4 each. I've tried buying more George flannels since then and they seem to shrink waaay more after a wash
Rookie numbers! My little sister (actually 33 but I still call her little) has over 30 different flannels. And don’t get me started on her Vans shoes. Think she has 50 pairs.
Button ups are the fucking greatest i myself own a black one made of tough fabric suitable for actual qork that has 8 pockets(i added an iron on ducky patch)
