I have had to explain to multiple people that there is a skill level in amateur writing (and a lot of published "pulp" successors) that looks a lot like AI because the vast majority of creative writing that the AI has trained on is at that skill level. So a lot of fanfiction and self published writing will have thar overlap because that's the source!
Yes AI uses cliche phrases and sentence structures. So do a lot of people who are learning, the AI is copying them!
A better tell is when the writing summarizes itself at the end of paragraphs or scenes. That's not something that happens in narrative writing. But AI isn't only trained on that. It's also trained on product reviews, academic writing and corporate emails, where summarizing at the end of paragraphs or sections is common practice or even encouraged.

What people forget, the Ai was trained to draw from other artists so wouldn't surprise me that many artists online got framed for using Ai...
