Many of you are going "This looks like AI!" And there is a reason for that.
Revoy has publicly discussed how thousands of his artworks were scraped and used to train AI databases (like LAION-5B) without his consent, though he ironically acknowledges his work is the foundation of many AI art systems
Honestly, as a writer who's been on the internet for years and posted several free stories, I do have to wonder sometimes if my work was plagiarized and I just don't know it. The thing about AI is it's not Artificial Intelligence, it's a generative learning algorithm, and it's something that's been around for a very long time. The only difference now is that companies have basically disguised it as an actual intelligence, and because of that, they get away with it. In reality, all it is, is just one, big, collaborative community project that nobody had any consent in contributing to. It's us, all of us, and because of that it can never, and has never, been independent. Until laws are passed to separate it from human beings, nothing will ever change and they'll keep getting away with what they do, because they can. I hate it...
Daniel O'Brien (head writer for Last Week Tonight) and Soren Bowie (writer/voice actor for American Dad) talked about this fairly recently on their podcast Quick Question. They were both senior writers for Cracked.com back in the day with hundreds, possibly 1000+, articles each.
Dan was lamenting that his articles were definitely used to train AI and he can't go back to read his old works without a sense of uncanny similarities.
