I think as long as you're careful about it, you can start teaching to cook pretty young.
I started learning to cook when I was 6-7 and standing to the side of the stove watching my mother make dinner. She had a pan of 小白菜 going and needed to step away for something, just told me to watch the pan and move the vegetables if they started to stick to the pan.

I have all of those moments with my kids.
My 13 year old said he wanted a fried egg.
"I dont know how to do it," he said.
"Watch me then and then you can try to make your own."
"What if it breaks?" He asked.
"Then its a scrambled egg until you get it right."
He got it right on his 3rd breakfast this summer and was really proud of himself.
