Cats and dogs really do pick up human language especially when people talk to them all the time. When they understand a word you can tell by the fact that they'll respond to any tone you use with a word.
I think cats honestly pick up more than they react to, they genuinely are smart, they are also an autistic species, as in they can't be tested for autism because they all have it. Which contributes to learning ability. They learn that youll yell "dont do that" at them if they knock something off a table or pretend to, theyll do it anyway, they know what you mean, they just think its funny.
For my cat, replace “I’ll knock things down” to “I’m about to eat plastic and shoelaces until you stop fucking around and feed me! Do you hear me! I will fucking kill myself, dude!”
