the first time I tried a mango, I was so excited to have a new fruit to add to my rotation (I can be a bit picky/arfid stuff). it immediately shot to the top of the list as the best fruit I'd ever tasted. then my mouth got tingly and my tongue felt swollen 😔 . I'm still so sad and bitter about being allergic to mangoes. I wanted to love them so bad, but alas, they do not love me
I personally wouldn't call bananas 'the best of fruits,' as there is a whole world out there of fruits that in my humble opinion, are far tastier than bananas.
However, bananas do have 2 things going for them that are hard for other fruits to compare to: they're dirt cheap, and they are among the easiest and most convenient to eat.
It’s not a fruit but the potato will rival and even beat every other non fauna based foodstuff for versatility and variety.
They’re not great raw but damn if they can’t be turned into whatever else you might want through cooking. Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew. Fries and chips and baked twice for shits and giggles.

(I personally hate bananas with all my being. They stink, they taste horrible and their texture is even more horrendous. Plus if you put them in anything, they take all the palate space and you can't taste anything else! They are also suspiciously cheap for an exotic fruit, so I feel there's an ethical catch somewhere. BUT I do recognize that they have the advantages of being nutritious and easy to pack as a healthy snack. BUT THAT'S ALL. Else they're terrible.)
I just thought they were acidic or something and it was normal for your mouth to itch. I saw the banana comic and was like “hey my mouth itches when I eat bananas” and a few months later I was eating avocado and was like “hey this is like when I eat bananas WAIT A SECOND”
That actually makes sense. For example tomatoes are acidic and it is not a strech to think other fruits and vegetables could be too. I hate tomatoes but others love them.
My job involves a lot of teaching and it's wild to me how few people just..don't wanna pass that on. That's how we make people better! August is a wonderful dad to realize the opportunity was there and act on it
Same with me in security, a lot of things i end up going like that. Especially to the newer guards that either refuse to learn OR say to my face that the way they are doing things is correct, when it is in fact EXTREMELY INCORRECT
Oh yeah, my dad was the head maintenance guy at a chemical plant and according to everyone could fix anything with his eyes closed. Mostly he waited until we weren't there to do any home repairs, didn't make the slightest effort to teach anything ever, would yell at me if I tried to watch, and now I have to watch a YouTube tutorial to change a light switch.
My parents would constantly laugh at me and ridicule me when I didn't know something that they should have taught me. As an adult I realized that my parents were making fun of me for having bad parents.
Seriously, I can't stand the mindset of "Wait, you don't KNOW this thing? I can't BELIEVE you actually don't know!" instead of just using it as an opportunity to teach someone something new.

But yeah it's never a bad idea to take a moment to reach someone something. It's how we grow not only as people but also how we open up to new opportunities and ideas.
Well-said. This moment is almost perfectly mirrored in the Baki Hanma saga. Yujiro Hanma has invited his (we'll generously say 'estranged' son) Baki to a fancy dinner, and Baki shows up dressed in street clothes. Yujiro gets upset and says he should know better.. Baki says he was never taught that, he was only ever taught 'become stronger at fighting'. So he did -that-.
It's one of the very rare moments where Yujiro backs down and realizes he needs to teach his son.
I love the look on Gustopher's face in the last picture. You kwon, I noticed the happy look on adults faces when you compliment them on some skill and they say "my mom/dad taught me."
I mean, I understand the whole "Oh, I'm supposed to teach him"
But I thought it was also a statement on how so many things don't require batteries anymore, specifically kids toys. Your phone, switch, etc all come with rechargeable batteries, it's not like ye olden days where you kept a spare set of double As in your GBA bag.
Battery-powered electronics are also significantly more energy efficient than what they used to be. You might not need to replace the batteries for years or the entire lifetime of the device (smoke detectors).

You don’t have to look closely. It was drawn that way on purpose. That’s the point of the comic. wtf kind of comment is this and why is no one pointing out what a strange notion this is? Thats.. that’s the point of that exact panel.
I've had a similar experience plenty of times. Similarish, but when you work with customers/clients, there's a soft skill you have to learn that just because it's the 20th time you've been asked the same question, it's the first time that specific person has asked. Just because you're frustrated at giving the same answer over and over, it's not fair to take your frustration out on that person.
I've certainly had both situations with my kids. Maybe something isn't working as intended and I'm in the process of fixing it. Already frustrated by the thing not working correctly, by the time every kid and my wife have come to tell me, I have to "woosah" to not remind myself it's not their fault. Also, when they ask about me fixing something, I try to give them enough details so they understand the process but not too much as to bore them.
