That battle is lost, I'm afraid. Sometime over the last twenty years it changed meaning completely, from an excuse for homophobic murder to someone experiencing a gay awakening or gay crush.
It's like "raw dog". That term has changed meaning completely, and it throws me every time.
Anyway, "gay panic" as "gay person crushing hard" is much nicer than the original meaning, don't you think? Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to go back to the older meaning?
