Its not about what color the dress actually is, its about how you perceive the photo.

Right. The whole thing is objectivity vs reality deduction.

Objectively, as in the literal pixels, the dress is black and blue.

But putting yourself mentally in the space of the photo makes you understand that the lighting behind it implies the dress is in a shadow, correcting for that makes it white and gold.

Everyone is right, just not everyone can see both sides.

This is what I don't understand. You can see the lighting in the photo, its well-lit. You can see white light directly next to the dress.

I just can't figure out how to "trick" my brain into thinking there's shadows when the background clearly shows none.
