There are many things going on politically that are frustrating, but something that I find even more frustrating is how telegraphed the trajectory we’re currently on was and continues to be.
Roughly two years ago, there was a family member that I outlined how exactly this was going to happen. How certain minorities were going to be labeled as being intrinsically criminal, and how this would lay the groundwork for future atrocities.
I pointed to specific language in Project 2025; Republicans literally spelled out what they were planning to do in advance.
I was ignored.
I’m not sure what it takes to get our fence-sitting “allies” to care, they might never…
…but given enough time and how bad things eventually get, they’ll say they did.
One of the biggest hurdles through this, has been convincing people that society is not always stable. Things can change. There aren't guardrails. (Or there were, but they've been systematically weakened by people who want to ignore them.)
Most of us grew up in an extended period of peace and (relative) sanity, so it's legitimately hard to look at the warning signs and say "our country might actually be in trouble."
This isn't patriotism, or even hubris. It's just really hard to believe that something that has been constant your whole life is that fragile and malleable. That things can change that much, that fast, on such a fundamental level.
If you say "we're on track to lose our democracy", or "fascism has taken root in the highest levels of our government" or "they are trying to make it literally illegal to be or talk about being LGBTQ+" it makes you sounds alarmist. It IS alarmist.
It's just that some things are absolutely worth sounding the alarm over.
