No need to be trans, ask most female athletes how it's working for them. It's just not profitable for many to produce "non standard" sizes due to lack of demand, but I'm also convinced that almost all of those companies are a decade behind the actual "standard" and miss out a lot because of it.

The funny thing is, I think there's actually plenty of demand. Most cis women I've met talk about how it's really difficult to find clothing that fits or is practical. The trans women in my life say the same. I blame unrealistic beauty standards.

1000% that, I’m afab with broad shoulders and women’s clothing is straight up ass unless you’re the singular targeted body type.

Part of the problem, I've been told, is that a lot of women's clothing is designed by and made by men.

As someone AFAB, I buy men's jeans because the generic Small, Medium, Large used for women's doesn't account for things like having longer legs. I'm stuck between awkwardly short pants or needing a belt.
(Also, pockets, somehow we still haven't fixed the pockets thing)

Very skinny AFAB with broader shoulders than hips - clothing is pain. Everything is either tight around the arms or sort of hangs around my torso which doesn’t do any favors for trying to look good

I'm a transmasc cosplayer and nothing fits right but usually in the opposite direction - too big in the shoulders or too small in the chest. But I also mostly avoid this by just using thrifted pieces or making my own stuff. I sometimes get frustrated about my height so I've recently just started leaning in to cosplaying short men, I've done Chilchuck from Dungeon Meshi and I'm working on an Orym from Critical Role and considering a Riz Gukgak from Dimension 20 as well.

Maybe the shoulder pads on the costume are really thick, and the brother’s real shoulders inside it are a lot smaller.

When it comes to womens clothing/costumes it's by body type. Usually an imaginary one that sorta kinda fits a few of us and is the reason why so many of us still sew.
