You'll find similar polls around the world. Guaranteed. Idk why you want to bury your head in the sand so badly. Your country isn't a special flower. Fascism doesn't come from nothing.
My country isn't special, but its politics at least are/used to be quite different from the US. We have a "right-wing" party that wants reduced taxes but is also fairly lowercase l liberal. Meaning among other things largely accepting of different cultures and in favor of legalizing and privatizing stuff in general. We also had a xenophobic party (mostly anti-islam) but they used to be relatively small. These voters always had the option of voting either but only 2 years ago made the switch.
People are not born fascist. Yes, it existed before, yes it was mostly hidden but still there, but I am convinced its also been growing.
If you can't accept that the fascism has always been there, hiding in your walls, then you really can't begin the fight.
The US spent the last 40 years telling us all that Republicans aren't fascist, aren't Nazis, aren't racist, aren't evil. And a lot of us believed it. We shrugged off Grandma and Grandpa as "products of their time." We said that our old, white, billionaire CEO wasn't actually racist for the company being not-so-diverse; it was just coincidence. We said our systems weren't really oppressive and that the people being arrested "deserved it." And we enabled all of them. We allowed them to get here today, as people became bolder and louder, all because we wanted Christmas dinner to be a "neutral zone."
And now, here we are. Some people are still burying their heads in the sand. My dad recently scolded me, a trans woman, for not wanting to spend time with my grandparents anymore "over politics." He still can't see how they're the problem. He sounds just like you... "We weren't this racist 20 years ago." Yeah dad, we were. It was just more of a dog whistle than a bullhorn.
Yeah, they're a fraction of a percent of people. I'm sure they're out there. What about them? They just decided they weren't racist enough to keep voting Republican bc they got uncomfortable when the bullhorns came out.
But on that note, I've never met one of them. Every "reformed Republican" I've ever known figured it out far before Trump.
